It is with great gratitude that I...
It is with great gratitude that I wish to relate my first healing in Christian Science, which came about in a week's time through my reading the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
I had suffered from a spinal injury and from muscular rheumatism since early childhood. While I was away at college, the difficulty grew worse, and after many months attending physicians said that there was nothing more which they could do. So in desperation I prayed to God in the best way that I knew for help.
The answer came in an introduction to Christian Science. I was led to go to a member of the faculty who I felt had something that other people did not have. When asked why I had come to her, I replied, "I have come in answer to prayer." Then she told me of Christian Science, and as I listened I knew that my prayer was being answered.
The next day with a receptive thought I began to read the Christian Science textbook. The very first sentence gave me great promise (Pref., p. vii), "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." So I began to lean, with a desire to learn more about God and His image, man. False beliefs were replaced with right ideas, and within the week I was healed of both physical difficulties.
Although there have been many other healings, I am especially grateful for this first one, which came about solely from the reading of our textbook, for it taught me that Science and Health contains the complete truth, which heals. This healing took place over thirteen years ago and it has been permanent.
For membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, for class instruction, for church activity, our periodicals, the lectures, and all the other provisions for growth in our movement, I wish to express my deep gratitude.
The importance of our Church Manual is becoming clearer to me, and obedience to its By-Laws brings daily enlightenment. My constant prayer is that I shall not forget my duty to God, to Christ Jesus, or to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science.—(Mrs.) Margie Medlin Bodine, Neenah, Wisconsin.
