Every time I look at my hands...
Every time I look at my hands I am grateful for Christian Science and for a healing which took place about three years ago. In preparing the evening meal, I was using a pan of oil for frying when with some quick movement I overturned the pan, and the hot oil poured over my hands and splashed onto the floor. I wiped the oil off my hands, mopped up the floor, and went right ahead heating some more oil and continuing with the preparation of the meal.
I clung to the thought that no one could see or notice the results of something which in truth, under God's government, had never happened. We had dinner and drove to a near-by town to hear a lecture on Christian Science. We met' some friends there and went to their home after the lecture, but no one noticed my hands. How glad I was for that protection! During all this time I was not conscious of much pain, but I was full of fear. I kept repeating and trying to understand, "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear" (I John 4:18). I tried to turn away from the suggestions that material sense presented, but without success.
When we returned home I found myself unable to think rationally at all. In desperation I asked my husband to help me. We sat quietly for a few moments and then he said: "You have been a student of Christian Science for a couple of years and you've learned that there's nothing to he afraid of. What you need is to know more."
In the morning I was more calm, but fear was still haunting me. I sat down to stud the Lesson-Sermon, but the words kept coming to me, "You need to know more." I turned to a dictionary and there, among other definitions for the word know, I found these words: "to perceive with understanding and conviction." I soon realized that according to that definition I did not know the truths I had been studying and declaring. If I had perceived with understanding and conviction that "there is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear," I could not be afraid.
I then took the definition for God which Mrs. Eddy gives on page 465 of Science and Health and tried as I never had before "to perceive with understanding and conviction" the meaning of those seven synonyms for God, and what it means for man to be made in the image and likeness of God. When I finished I knew that I was healed, because the fear had lifted as completely as fog before the sunlight. I was free and joyous. The physical evidence disappeared gradually, but completely, and within a month not a trace was left of the burns which a friend who was a doctor had warned were serious and needed attention. He was surprised to see them healed and my hands without scars.
This healing taught me much that I needed to know. I learned the meaning of the following two statements by Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health: "Inflammation is fear, an excited state of mortals which is not normal" (pp. 414, 415); "And when the fear is destroyed, the inflammation will subside" (p. 421).
I have had many other healings through Christian Science, of moodiness, worry, fatigue, colds, pain. I never ease being thankful that God has revealed Himself to us through His two faithful witnesses, Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, and Christian Science as it was disclosed to Mrs. Eddy. I am grateful for the unselfed love which led her to make this revelation available to every sincere seeker. I am grateful too for class instruction from a consecrated teacher who was near to Mrs. Eddy, and for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church. I deeply appreciate all the help I have received and am receiving from the Christian Science lectures and from the many articles and testimonies in the Christian Science periodicals.—(Mrs.) Helen Doyle Calabro, Lexington, Massachusetts.
I wish to corroborate my wife's testimony regarding the healing of her hands. We are grateful to know that God is Love, and that divine Mind proves all material conditions to be unreal.
I also wish to express my gratitude for a healing of ulcers and many other healings which I have received through Christian Science, for membership in The Mother Church, and for class instruction.

Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born, of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
