I became interested in Christian Science...

I became interested in Christian Science over thirty years ago after a brother had been healed of tuberculosis. I did not take up the study of this Science for a physical healing, although I was very much in need of it, but only because I had promised this brother to read Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy.

I read very reluctantly at first: then as I began to understand it I became intensely interested. After I had studied for a very short time I found myself entirely free from organic trouble which I had thought only an operation could cure. This healing was the result of my being freed from what I had thought the word "devil" to mean, thus removing from my thought a burden that I had carried from my earliest recollection.

On page 369 of Science and Health we read. "The prophylactic and therapeutic (that is, the preventive and curative) arts belong emphatically to Christian Science, as would be readily seen, if psychology, or the Science of Spirit, God, was understood." While I am very grateful for all the healings I have seen as a result of Science treatment, I am especially so for the prevention of many errors. My two sons went through grade school without ever having any of the so-called children's diseases, and only in one instance, when the older son was in high school, was there such a difficulty to be overcome.

When my younger son was given a physical examination on entering the Navy, he was the only one in the group who did not have to have anything done— even to his teeth—and he passed the highest of the group. I have been so consistently well that I have very often had friends tell me how very "lucky" I am.

I am very grateful to God for the fact that Mrs. Eddy's purity of thought enabled her to discern this wonderful Science, and that her love for others enabled her to give it to the world. I feel that our only proof of this gratitude is to strive to demonstrate in daily living our understanding of her teachings for the benefit of ourselves and all with whom we come in contact.—(Mrs.) Goldie V. Johnson, Costa Mesa, California.
