In November, 1938, I found...

In November, 1938, I found Christian Science. One evening I was very much disturbed over financial circumstances. My sister, who was with me at the time, gave me "the scientific statement of being" by Mrs. Eddy (Science and Health, p. 468) to read.

Reading and studying it the next few days gave me a different view of all that life includes. I could feel its healing power. It not only destroyed the belief of limitation but healed me of several minor ills, including sleeplessness. I made a trip to a practitioner, and he explained the truth about God and man. I got my own copy of Science and Health and studied it daily. I had many healings, financial as well as physical, and harmony was restored in my home.

I have cause to be grateful for the privilege of sending my young son to the Christian Science Sunday School. Once he was struck by a car and was pushed about twenty-five feet before the driver could stop. When the driver got out he found that the only damage was to the car, both lights being broken and a fender badly bent. The boy's only concern was not to be late for school. When I came home from my work later in the day he told me of his experience. His Sunday School teacher had told him accidents are not known to God, and he sat at the curb and repeated "the scientific statement of being." Again the power of this wonderful Science was proved, for all he had was a small scratch on his knee, which healed in a couple of days.

I am deeply grateful for the immediate healing of grief that my son and I had at the time of the passing on of my husband two years ago. This statement in Science and Health helped me a great deal (p. 77): "Of what advantage, then, would it be to us, or to the departed, to prolong the material state and so prolong the illusion either of a soul inert or of a sinning, suffering sense,—a so-called mind fettered to matter." I realized the truth of this statement, and we were both healed.

I am grateful for the help and patience of the practitioner, who is always willing and ready with loving counsel. I am grateful to be a member of The Mother Church, and to be actively contributing to our Cause. My greatest joy was class instruction.

I thank God every day for His two witnesses, Christ Jesus and Christian Science. Above all I am grateful to the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science for the periodicals and the Reading Rooms. I am looking forward to gaining a larger understanding of God in Christian Science. —(Mrs.) Jacoba C. Lavenberg, Los Angeles, California.
