I am very grateful for Christian Science...

I am very grateful for Christian Science and wish to express the gratitude I feel that our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, gave its truths to the world so that they can be readily applied by its students. Christian Science gives us the law by which we can live our daily lives in harmony.

It was first presented to me by a woman who I later discovered was a Christian Science practitioner. Upon learning that I was without employment or funds and was greatly disheartened and discouraged she asked if I should like to read the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, if she lent me a copy. I told her I should, and I spent the next two days and nights reading it. When I went back to see her I was told to read it again and study it. I had received a peace I had not known before and tried to gain an understanding of God and man's relationship to Him. Within a very few days I received notice to report for work.

My first physical healing was of a broken rib. I refused medical aid and read the textbook. It seemed clear that man as God's idea could express only harmony. On page 424 of Science and Health, there is a paragraph with the marginal heading. "Accidents unknown to God." I saw that if God did not know it, I, as His idea, could not experience an accident. The next morning I was at work, completely healed. At the same time the desire for the use of tobacco left me and it has never returned.

My wife and I have experienced many demonstrations of supply, protection, and healing through Christian Science.

Several years ago I had charge of a large construction project, and in order to carry on the work there was a need for certain material which was very scarce. All known sources were contacted. One concern told me they would not give a delivery date, another quoted an exorbitant price, and others said it would be impossible to fill an order. I knew the truth of the statement given us by Mr. Eddy on page 494 of our textbook. "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." The next morning I received a telephone call from an unexpected and unknown source, offering me the needed material at a reasonable figure.

At another time I was healed of a severe attack of stomach trouble by realizing that man is God's idea and, as such, can reflect only love; that we must love all mankind and not see error as any part of man. After this realization I dropped off to sleep, and upon awaking I was entirely free.

I wish to express my gratitude for all the periodicals and for the very fine work that is being done for those in the armed forces by the Camp Welfare Activities of The Mother Church. It has been my privilege to come in contact with several of the Wartime Ministers, and they are doing a great work.

I am also most grateful for the privilege of class instruction and for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church. —(Lt. Col.) Eben S. Longfellow, Washington, District of Columbia.

I should like to corroborate the testimony of my husband and also express my gratitude for the wonderful truths we have learned through the study of Christian Science.

I had been suffering from pulmonary tuberculosis and a nervous breakdown when a friend brought me a copy of Science and Health and said she thought I might like to read it, since she knew I was reading the Bible daily. I had been reading the Bible very earnestly, trying to gain a better concept of God. I read the textbook through in a very short time, not for a physical healing, but to know God better. However, when I finished reading this wonderful book I was completely healed. This healing took place quite a number of years ago and has been permanent.

Ten years ago my husband and I were taking one of his junior officers with us in the car to a town about thirty-five miles from camp. While I was putting some things in the back of the car, the door dropped on my hand, striking it across the knuckles. The pain was intense for a few minutes and a swelling and discoloration appeared on the palm of my hand and the knuckles. This officer wanted to rush for the doctor, but we told him it would be all right, and I asked my husband to work for me on our way into town. By the time we reached our destination the pain had ceased, and by night the swelling was gone. The next morning the discoloration was gone and the hand was normal.

At another time we were rejoicing in the understanding of Love gained from the study of Mrs. Eddy's writings, and in the joy of knowing better how to give. We had just made out our check for our per capita tax to The Mother Church and realized that each time we had raised the amount of our giving we too always received an increase. This proved very definitely to us Mrs. Eddy's statement on page 79 of our textbook, "Giving does not impoverish us in the service of our Maker, neither does withholding enrich us."

I am indeed grateful to Mary Baker Eddy for giving Christian Science to the world, that we can prove the law of Life daily. I am also grateful for the privilege of class instruction, membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, and the joy and privilege of serving in the branch church.—(Mrs.) Rosa G. Longfellow, Washington, District of Columbia.
