Since I took up the study of...

Since I took up the study of Christian Science my life has been so filled with blessings that I can never express in words alone my gratitude to God for the truth revealed to us by our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. It was the incontestable logic of Christian Science that first held my interest. I did not expect healings in those early, eager years, yet loneliness, depression, sarcasm, headaches, and an unhealthy condition of the finger nails disappeared.

Our two sons have had many healings and protection from accident. We did not always escape the touch of children's diseases, but release from their effects came promptly upon application of the truth, and we then had seasons of rejoicing because we had proved our religion practical and true.

When one boy was about four years old he became deaf, and, though I worked faithfully in Christian Science, there was no improvement. One evening my husband said that I must take the child to a doctor the next day. Then I asked the lad's Sunday school teacher for treatment. Her work lessened my husband's fear overnight, for in the morning he said he was willing to wait a few more days before consulting a doctor. The practitioner asked me to study the chapter on Genesis in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and when I read on page 518 that "the divine Principle, or Spirit, comprehends and expresses all, and all must therefore be as perfect as the divine Principle is perfect," I knew my son was healed, and he was. Colds, fevers, tonsillitis, broken bones, and many other ills have been overcome some instantaneously.

During school and college years an understanding of Christian Science was of great help. The following statements from two editorials in our publications were especially appreciated, deepening our trust and dispelling fears: "The power of divine Mind behind you is always greater than the human task before you;" and, "In the infinite goodness of God and the consciousness of man, there is no tempter, no temptation, no weak yielding to wrong impulses." We have tried to acknowledge God in all our ways, knowing that He governs every event of our lives, and the happy results of this knowing have encouraged us.

When driving alone I have tried to "pray without ceasing" (I Thess. 5:17), denying whatever error suggested to my thought, pleading God's omnipotence and omnipresence. An experience of mine some years ago is gladly remembered. On this occasion, with no apparent reason, lack and loss of supply were forced on my consciousness over and over again. But each mile of the day's drive I declared that God supplies all good to every one of His children.

When I reached home in the evening I found my husband discouraged and disappointed. Several days before, his employer had notified him that his position was being abolished. My husband had hoped to make other connections before telling me of the change, but up to that evening he had been unsuccessful. Then and there we held fast to the surety of God's promises, and before the period of employment was past a new position was obtained.

The privileges of church membership have long been mine, and after class instruction opportunities for service were multiplied. The Christian Science Sunday School has blessed members of my family.

Truly God's loving care extends to earth's remotest corners.— (Mrs.) Barbara Scott Nichols, Chicago, Illinois.
