Man Changeless

In the light of Christian Science, man, the image and likeness of his Father-Mother God is seen as changeless, perfect, harmonious, happy, loving, and eternal. Like Christ he is "the same yesterday, and to day and for ever" (Hebr. 13:8). Man as God's child, has existed forever in God's unchanging eternity, where there is no time, no age, no sin no bitterness, no ill will, no selfishness, no injury or inharmony, no death.

Christ Jesus recognized man's eternality and oneness with God when he prayed (John 17:21. 23). "That they all may be one: as thou, Father, art in me and I in thee, that they also may be one in us:... I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one." Man the reflection of God forever expresses all the qualities of God such as courage, calmness, patience, intelligence love, happiness, contentment and freedom.

We hear much about the conditions and needs of our servicemen and women returning from overseas. In some instances mortal mind says that they are not the same as when they went away; that they may be more sensitive and perhaps bitter; that they need adjustment; in other words, that they have changed and must be rehabilitated. But mortal mind never tells the truth, for it is as Jesus said of the devil (John 8:44), a liar. This supposititious mind is error, evil. Mary Baker Eddy writes in the Christian Science textbook. "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 71): "Evil has no reality. It is neither person, place, nor thing, but is simply a belief, an illusion of material sense." Mortal mind, so called, has no place, power, or reality. The complexity and maladjustment of mortal mind are destroyed by the order and harmony of the divine Mind.

Christian Science churches, Wartime Ministers, Wartime Workers, and all others who are alert to the truths taught and demonstrated in Christian Science are not being mesmerized into trying to rehabilitate matter. Where there is need for healing they recognize God as the only healer, whose allness precludes the false beliefs of fear, hatred, ill will, pain and confusion. They acknowledge man to be God's perfect, changeless, happy child.

Mrs. Eddy states the truth about man on pages 470 and 471 of Science and Health: "God is the creator of man, and, the divine Principle of man remaining perfect, the divine idea or reflection man, remains perfect. Man is the expression of God's being." And then she adds: "The relations of God and man, divine Principle and idea, are indestructible in Science: and Science knows no lapse from nor return to harmony, but holds the divine order or spiritual law, in which God and all that He creates are perfect and eternal, to have remained unchanged in its eternal history." As we understand the fact that man "remains perfect," we shall see that man, living and moving in wholly beneficent atmosphere, needs no special environment.

As a Wartime Minister, the writer has observed that service men and women disdain praise, unusual entertainment, special recognition, and soft sympathy. They need the co-operation of constructive scientific thinkers who express happiness, gratitude, courage, and faith, and who give a smile and a word of hope and assurance. They confess that they do not need recreation and entertainment so much as they need prayer which assures them of their true being as God's children, their wholeness, completeness, and usefulness.

There is only one law, the law of God, Love, and there is only one lawmaker, even God. All of God's children, changeless and eternal, are governed by the law of God, good, and not by the so-called laws of mortal mind. It is our duty and privilege to destroy with the truth about God and man all false predictions, claims, and fears. Let us oppose whatever suggests loss, imperfection, sickness, or sin because it is untrue; it is not of God, Love!

On pages 273 and 274 of Science and Health we find these statements by Mrs. Eddy: "Matter and its claims of sin sickness, and death are contrary to God and cannot emanate from Him:" and, "Science shows that material, conflicting mortal opinions and beliefs emit the effects of error at all times, but this atmosphere of mortal mind cannot be destructive to morals and health when it is opposed promptly and persistently by Christian Science. Truth and Love antidote this mental miasma, and thus invigorate and sustain existence." Our greatest need is to oppose "promptly and persistently by Christian Science" every form of error, and thus see falsehood destroyed and man revealed as changeless. Godlike, and eternal.
