I wish to thank God for Christian Science...

I wish to thank God for Christian Science and for our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy.

When first I heard of Christian Science, I was living in California, and was suffering terribly from homesickness for England and "my ain folk"; consequently, I was not well. I had bronchitis annually, and fear, self-pity, and resentment followed. I was a mental and physical wreck.

Mrs. Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need." A friend of my husband's saw my need, and lent me Science and Health, saying, "Read this book with an open mind, 'And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free'" (John 8:32). I read it, and I also attended a church service. I felt immediately uplifted, and after reading the textbook through, I discarded glasses which had been worn constantly for a year or two, the oculist having told me I should always have to wear them for chronic astigmatism. I found great comfort and healing power in the study of the Bible and of the Christian Science literature, which I understand better every day. Divine Love provided for me and guided me, with my family, back to England.

I am truly grateful for the practitioners. I have received much help from them. I have been greatly blessed by the love and unselfishness of a practitioner who has helped me to overcome chronic bilious attacks, from which I had suffered since girlhood, and other discords. Peace, "which passeth all understanding" (Phil. 4:7), has replaced fear, discouragement, and hate with truth, hope, and love; a quick temper has been overcome, as have a very critical thought of others, love of the world, social drinking, love of self, impatience, self-pity, and other false traits of character.

I am grateful for the Church Manual; for all the Christian Science periodicals; for membership in The Mother Church and in one of its branches, where I am able to take an active part and so help the Cause of Christian Science. Class instruction has been a great help to me, and the yearly association meeting is a feast. Mrs. Eddy's hymns have healing power, and the Hymnal is a great blessing. I have often been lifted from sense to Soul by repeating and singing our hymns.

As we are taught to understand in Christian Science, our dear Father-Mother God is always at hand. His work is finished and complete. We have only to do our part. Thanks to Christ Jesus, our Way-shower, and our dear Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, I have good health, peace of mind, and supply, as a result of seeking first the kingdom of heaven.―(Mrs.) Blanche Blyth Samet, Reigate, Surrey, England.
