I wish to express my heartfelt...
I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude for Christian Science.
Several years ago my small daughter and I were driving with a friend who is a devout Christian Scientist. I had only a slight understanding of this Science at the time. On our way home I accidentally closed the door of the car, and to my dismay discovered that my little daughter had caught her finger in it. The door had to be opened in order for her to remove her finger. Knowing so little of Christian Science, I naturally was very much concerned about the bad appearance of the hand.
My friend said nothing, but, as I learned later, began working silently. I felt a little resentful at the time at her apparent indifference. However, the next day, to our delight the hand had healed perfectly. We were grateful beyond words for this healing.
At another time this daughter broke her arm. It seemed advisable to have it set by a surgeon, but with Christian Science help not one hour of discomfort was experienced. The arm knit very quickly, and in a short time she was using it.
Supply has been demonstrated in wonderful ways. When many people were believing in a worldwide depression, we were able to prove that supply comes from God and built up a very good business. During that time I held to Mrs. Eddy's statement in Science and Health (p. 199), "The devotion of thought to an honest achievement makes the achievement possible."
I am grateful to testify that since taking up the study of Christian Science, I have not spent one full day in bed because of sickness of any kind. Christian Science is teaching me not to depend on persons or material conditions for my happiness.
I am especially grateful for the transformation which has taken place in my life, for the patient and loving work of the practitioners, and for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church. Recently I have come to realize more fully that the qualities of obedience and humility are very necessary in the working out of any and all problems. I am humbly grateful to God and to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who has revealed Truth to us.—(Mrs.) Alice Grace Durkin, Beverly Hills, California.
