My blessings have been so manifold...

My blessings have been so manifold since taking up the study of Christian Science that I wish to express my gratitude.

March of 1930 found me a wretched individual. I had been very ill for a number of months, and had had three physicians, who diagnosed the case as liver, gall, and bladder trouble. I was told I would be sick for a long time. I was subject to a very strict diet, and took medicine continually. It was impossible for me to walk one block without intense pain.

A dear friend asked me to try Christian Science, and took me to a practitioner. At this time, when everything seemed so upset and disturbed, the comforting thought that God is a loving Father, one to be trusted and sought in time of trouble, gave me calm trust and assurance. These words of our Master stood out predominantly: "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." Immediately I felt God's presence, the distressed thoughts of fear and self-pity left me, and I felt that peace "which passeth all understanding." My consciousness was lifted from the upsetting influence of mortal mind to the ever-presence of God's Christ-power. Infinite good revealed the perfection of God's will, changed the sense of discord to the consciousness of harmony. I became very grateful; it seemed as if a great weight had been lifted.

That evening, to the amazement of my husband and son, I partook of all the food at the table that I wanted, with no bad results. I was free. I had been healed instantaneously in the one visit. It was like a miracle, and brought to light very clearly the statement, "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword." I have had no return of this condition.

Mary Baker Eddy has given us in Science and Health a clear interpretation of our divine liberty (p. 14): "Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual,—neither in nor of matter—and the body will then utter no complaints. If suffering from a belief in sickness, you will find yourself suddenly well."

I should like to mention briefly another experience which attests to this healing power. A short time after my healing my husband was suddenly attacked with illness during the night. The pains were so severe his one thought was that he had appendicitis. I telephoned a practitioner, and within fifteen minutes after his arrival the pain subsided, and my husband slept for four hours, awaking entirely healed.

I want to give thanks to God that Christian Science is indeed a very present help in trouble. Often thoughts of fear, anxiety, or worry try to present themselves in consciousness. But each time I open the Bible, my books pertaining to Christian Science, or to the religious article in The Christian Science Monitor, God speaks to me directly and I have the answer to the problem.

I shall never cease to be grateful for the consecrated work of the practitioners. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, and for class instruction. My prayer is for the spiritual enlightenment of Christian Science which brings ability to demonstrate quicker healings of sin and sickness.—(Mrs.) Lydia M. Smith, Amityville, New York.
