About four years ago, I found myself standing in "the valley of the shadow of death." Before that I had always enjoyed excellent health. Then, within a short time, I had had three doctors in attendance, and had been in two hospitals, where several X-ray pictures were made and I was given radium and X-ray treatments until I had taken all I could take. The final verdict of the doctors was that they could do nothing for me, and I was sentenced to die within a short time. I was suffering from cancer of the stomach, for which they knew no cure. The doctors, nurses, and attendants were very kind to me and relieved my suffering as much as they could.

After the doctors had done all they could for me a woman recommended that I have Christian Science treatment. We went to see a practitioner, and I secured a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. As I read, I tried to understand this book, but I was so materially-minded I could not seem to grasp the wonderful truths contained in it. I think if it had not been for the practitioner's love, patience, kindness, and devotion to the work, I might have been tempted to give up. But after about four months of tireless effort on her part, I finally gained some realization of Truth. My complete recovery was then almost instantaneous.

In reading Science and Health, I found the allegory on pages 430-442 a great help to me, as were the testimonies of healing in the Journal and Sentinel, and the loving words of fellow students. I shall always be grateful for the work of the practitioner, whose help meant so much in my victory over error.
