Twenty-six years ago a friend...

Twenty-six years ago a friend saw me going through a period of suffering caused by a sequence of growths, which at last kept me in bed. Doctors had told me that an operation was necessary and would take place in a few days. My friend then spoke to me of Christian Science and what it had done for his family and for him.

It appealed to me instantly as a religion of Love, and I saw that since God is wholly good, evil cannot be real or have power. A practitioner was asked for help and came a considerable distance to see me. Her explanations were so lucid that I decided to place myself entirely in her hands, being convinced that Truth would operate. The immediate result was healing. I arose from my bed and went to business the next day.

Through the years that have followed, Christian Science, the Science of Christianity, has met my every need. It has given me many good friends, good health, and has enabled me to help in a small measure those in bondage to various types of fear.

For a considerable time a bone in my hand appeared to be out of place and was most unsightly. As it gave me no pain I bothered very little about it, although friends continually reminded me of its appearance. While I was trying to help someone over the problem of unemployment, a passage from a testimony of healing on page 444 of "Miscellaneous Writings" by Mrs. Eddy was found most useful. It reads in part, "What a blessing to know ... that divine Principle governs all its ideas, and will place each where it belongs!" The man was quickly employed, and without specific work the misplaced bone in my hand became normal. We should expect such evidences of normality, based on the fact of the perfection of creation.

I shall always feel grateful to God and to our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for her consecrated life, revealing the truth which our Master promised would make us free.—Walter F. Thwaits, London, England.
