With sincere humility and deepest gratitude to God, I offer my testimony to the healing efficacy of Christian Science. I became interested when I was but eleven years of age, upon hearing a neighbor discuss it. I prevailed upon my mother to let me go to a Christian Science Sunday School one day that year. After this I had no further opportunity to attend until I was thirteen years old.

After my mother passed on under medical care, I rode with a friend to a city, six hours distant, which was the nearest place where Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy could be purchased. How happy I was with this precious book in my possession! I needed the truth it taught.

While at a practitioner's home I was almost completely healed of grief. I was tearfully relating my experience, when the practitioner said, "My dear, she still lives." Such healing conviction went with these words that I was immediately aroused, and was encouraged and strengthened for the task ahead of me, that of helping my father to raise four younger brothers and a baby sister. The Bible, Science and Health, together with other works by Mrs. Eddy, and the Christian Science periodicals were a constant source of inspiration and strength.

The first healing I witnessed through the application of Christian Science was that of a two-year-old child who had swallowed a strong solution of lye.

I have experienced many healings in Christian Science. I recall a healing of acute appendicitis. The first attack occurred on a Thursday night. On Saturday I had a very severe attack and called a practitioner for help. On Sunday I was at my post at Sunday school and performed all my duties without any discomfort. On the following Thursday it was again necessary for me to call for help. I held to Mrs. Eddy's command (Science and Health, p. 393), "Rise in the strength of Spirit to resist all that is unlike good." That Saturday I was due at an association meeting about two hundred miles distant. I considered it my privilege and duty to be there, so I refused to accept the evidence of material sense and made all preparations.

One hour before time for my train to leave, another attack occurred. I knew it was only a suggestion of mortal mind trying to keep me from receiving and giving out good, and I had no fear. By the time I arrived at my destination I was comfortable. But in the middle of the afternoon session I was almost overcome. The teacher, who knew nothing about my experience, was giving us so many healing statements with love, conviction, and assurance that I was completely healed. There never has been the slightest return of the difficulty.

Still another healing that stands out clearly is one of partial paralysis of the right side. I worked in Christian Science for several weeks, as I remember, gaining gradually and being able to continue with my regular activities, though with difficulty. Early one Sunday morning I had awakened quite ill and seemed almost helpless. This thought came to me: "Every statement of truth heals instantaneously, completely, and permanently. The truths I declare are efficacious now." With that I was able to get downstairs. I picked up a Christian Science Sentinel and managed to get back to bed. I found an article which was just what I needed. Before I had finished reading it I realized a great change had taken place. I went to sleep, rested quietly, and was able to walk sixteen blocks to church.

A crippled condition remained, however, which did not immediately yield. A fear of the future tried to enter my thoughts. I called a practitioner, telling her of the condition. She gave me this message: "Can you imagine the infinite One crippled?" Of course I could not. Nor as she said, could I visualize His reflection, man, crippled, either. Within a short time all manifestations of the error vanished and I was free and inexpressibly grateful.

I have witnessed and experienced many other healings, among which were those of chronic tonsillitis, influenza, measles, and spinal meningitis in its last stages; also a case of insanity of long duration healed in ten days; severe burns from a powder blast healed in one week without scar, powder mark, or impaired sight; and pneumonia healed in four days with no aftereffects; all through the application of Christian Science.

While very grateful for the physical healings mentioned, I am still more grateful for the spiritual uplift, guidance, and protection, and for the light thrown on the blessed Scriptures by the study of Christian Science.

We Christian Scientists cannot be too grateful for the loving, unselfish, courageous work of our dear Leader, and the unerring wisdom she showed in establishing every activity of the Christian Science movement.

Having had the privilege of class instruction while a young girl, I have for many years profited by the association meetings.
