It is with sincere gratitude for...
It is with sincere gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me and my family that I am writing this testimony.
It was in the year 1919 that I first heard of Christian Science. For many years I had been suffering from a displacement which had reduced me to a very weak condition.
On my return from town one day I met a woman who I knew had been a great sufferer from asthma. She told me that she was having Christian Science treatment and was much better. She also told me that Christian Science helped one not only spiritually and physically, but in every walk of life.
In the evening I told my husband what I had heard. He too had heard of Christian Science that day, and the next day he sought a Christian Science practitioner. After the first treatment he had an instantaneous healing of one of four very serious difficulties, and within three months the three others were healed. I was healed of my suffering within two months. Since then I have had very good health.
I should like to mention a healing I had of impaired sight many years ago. I found it difficult to read by electric light. I did not mention this problem to anyone, for I wished to work it out myself. Returning from church one evening, I telephoned a friend. Before finishing the conversation she said that a Christian Science student had called on her and on leaving had asked her to read Psalm 121. I thought, I shall get my Bible and look up that Psalm. I found it and when I had read to the middle verse I looked up from the book and thought: "What a beautiful Psalm! What a comfort for anyone in trouble!" When I looked at my Bible again it was just as if a very powerful magnifying glass was over the print. I felt very much excited, and turned to the first pages and found I could read the smallest print quite clearly. I at once told my family, who greatly rejoiced.
The next morning I was thanking God and feeling very grateful for the lovely healing, when the first line of the Psalm came to me, "I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help." I had not thought of my eyes when reading the Psalm, and then I realized that its message had been for me.
I am very grateful to our loving Father-Mother God for inspiring our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, with the spiritual understanding of the Bible, which now helps those in Christian Science to love it because they understand it. With the Bible and Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy we are able to solve our problems.
I have had several instantaneous healings of sore throat, severe headaches, and severe colds, and a very ugly thumbnail I had had for thirty-three years was healed after I had realized for three mornings that God's law of love extends to the very smallest detail of our being.
I have been a member of a branch church for twenty-one years, and also a member of The Mother Church. In 1927 I was privileged to have class instruction, which gave me great confidence in God's omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience.— (Mrs.) Laura Matilda Maude Tanner, Wellington, New Zealand.
