Introductions to Lectures
Detroit, Michigan (Third Church).
Lecturer: Peter B. Biggins; introduced by Mrs. Laura E. Lovett Gustus, who said:—
I have had a lifelong privilege of proving that Christian Science is indeed a practical religion. During my college course, and later in my professional and business experience, I found that the solution to every problem lies in the sacred pages of the Bible, and the writings of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. We, in this age, are singularly blessed in having the complete and final revelation of Truth. Gratefully we recall the significant words of Christ Jesus, as recorded in the tenth chapter of Luke's Gospel, "I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them."
I have seen cancer and tuberculosis healed in Christian Science; I have seen abnormal growths disappear, and a dislocated shoulder put back into place; I have seen skin disease and yellow jaundice healed. These are but a few of the many healings I have witnessed, all brought about without the application of any material remedies, but through radical reliance on the power of God, as taught in Christian Science. The same truth that accomplished these healings will be expounded to us here tonight, and Truth is available to all. Oakland, California (Fifth Church).
Lecturer: Judge Samuel W. Greene; introduced by Mark C. Munson, who said:—
Kindly allow me to relate a healing that came to one in our home while we were yet new in Christian Science.
Our young son broke his ankle. An X ray was taken, and the negative revealed the ends of the bone to be overlapping, leaving the leg short. The doctors had no positive remedy to offer, and when a kind friend lovingly recomended that we employ Christian Science treatment, we did so at once, with the happy result of a complete healing.
Several months later, the physician who had taken the X ray asked to examine the boy's leg and was permitted to do so. Then he remarked: "When I took the X-ray picture, that leg was an inch and a half shorter than the other. I have just measured it three times, and both legs are exactly the same length."
Words are inadequate to express my gratitude for the wonderful healing efficacy of Christian Science. Our revered Leader and benefactor, Mary Baker Eddy, has brought to us again the joyful tidings of "on earth peace, good will toward men."
