I am very glad to bear grateful...

I am very glad to bear grateful testimony to the demonstrable truth as given to us by our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." For twenty years my family and I have been healed and protected in many instances.

Our elder son, now grown, was healed of all the symptoms of whooping cough in one day when the truth was affirmed that God's child reflects only perfection. At another time our younger son, then a baby, fell from his high chair and was picked up unconscious. Through the help of a practitioner, who was called on the telephone immediately, my fears were greatly calmed and in a few moments the baby was smiling and happy again.

In my own experience colds and headaches have been banished instantly; also constipation which seemed chronic has disappeared entirely. When my children were small and my husband's business took him out of the city where we were living, I was able to overcome a sense of loneliness and fear through the knowledge of God's ever-presence and protecting care. It was during this time that I became a member of a branch church for the first time and experienced the joy of having a small part in the activities of the Christian Science movement.

Several years ago I became very much discouraged, worried, and impatient while building a new home. This erroneous thinking resulted in a severe nervous breakdown, which I am most grateful to say was overcome in a few weeks with the loving help and guidance of a practitioner and the kindly ministrations of Christian Science nurses.

Mrs. Eddy says in the textbook (p. 201), "We cannot build safely on false foundations." I learned through this experience to put God first in my daily life, and that my real home is my consciousness of God, good. This wholly good consciousness has its spiritual foundation in the rock of Truth and is manifested in such qualities as patience, courage, humility, and brotherly love. Mrs. Eddy says further (ibid., p. 264), "When we realize that Life is Spirit, never in nor of matter, this understanding will expand into self-completeness, finding all in God, good, and needing no other consciousness."

I am increasingly grateful for a happy and harmonious home, for the unselfishness of our dear Leader, for all the activities of The Mother Church, for the blessing of class instruction, and for the privilege of serving in a branch church.

Each new day is a day of opportunity to learn and reflect more of good. The heavenly inspiration of Truth and Love beckons me on and enables me to understand Mrs. Eddy's words in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 174), "Each day I know Him nearer, love Him more, and humbly pray to serve Him better."—(Mrs.) Eva C. Howland, Pasadena, California.

I wish gratefully to verify the foregoing testimony of my wife. Christian Science has been our help in every trial. Through its teachings our family has been blessed, our home has been protected, and we have gained a clearer understanding of God's ever-presence.
