The Psalmist tells us, "It is a...
The Psalmist tells us, "It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High;" and again: "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing."
Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, says in Science and Health (p. 569), "He that touches the hem of Christ's robe and masters his mortal beliefs, animality, and hate, rejoices in the proof of healing,—in a sweet and certain sense that God is Love."
For the past twenty-five years I have been studying Christian Science, and words are inadequate to express my gratitude for what that study has done for me. From the time I was two years old I suffered from what physicians called bronchial asthma. Many doctors were consulted but no permanent relief was obtained. Finally, after several years, my parents were told that the condition was incurable, nothing more could be done for me, the longest I could live was three months, and it was useless to spend any more money for medical attention.
At that time a neighbor recommended that we try Christian Science. We visited a practitioner, and after the first treatment I received such relief that, after leaving her office. I was able to enjoy a substantial lunch without having any ill effect, something I had not been able to do for some time. I was also able to spend the afternoon shopping with my mother without experiencing any sense of weariness, another thing I had not been able to do previously. We were overjoyed at the result, and continued the treatments. Within a year I was completely healed. Every vestige of the old trouble disappeared.
I was immediately enrolled in the Christian Science Sunday School, where I received the foundation of my understanding of Christian Science. I attended the Sunday school for some eight years, learning how to apply the rules of Christian Science to all my problems, including my school-work. The result was that I graduated at the same time as my classmates, notwithstanding the fact that previous to finding Christian Science I had been absent a great deal on account of ill-health.
Then, upon entering the business world, I was able to solve the problems that arose by applying the same rules.
When I approached the age of twenty and it was time to leave the Sunday school there was quite a sense of regret. This was voiced one Sunday to my teacher, and she said there was no need for it; that I could go on studying, and when the time came, class instruction could be taken. Before many months had passed, this privilege came to me, and I am profoundly grateful to have had this experience because it unfolded the truths of Christian Science so clearly and taught me how to practice this Science.
At this time I joined The Mother Church and a branch church and was asked to serve in the Sunday school. Thus I realized that I could go right on in the Sunday school, learning with the children more about God and man's relationship to Him. This activity is teaching me each day to be more childlike in my faith and to be receptive of the good that is our divine birthright.
I have had many proofs of the healing power of Christian Science during the intervening years—an instantaneous healing of scarlet fever, protection during an automobile accident, and a complete healing of nervous prostration. This last healing was rather slow in being realized, but an increased understanding has been gained about the fatherhood and motherhood of God and the perfection of man as an idea of Mind. Each day brings an unfoldment of more good in my consciousness.
I am sincerely grateful to the practitioners, and only hope to express my gratitude to God and to our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, by helping others along the way I have been so lovingly guided.— (Mrs.) Gladys Broms, Chicago, Illinois.
