My attention has been called to...

Huntington Herold-Dispatch

My attention has been called to an article which appeared in a recent issue of your paper in which a writer, under the heading "Everyday Living," makes reference to Christian Science in a way that calls for some explanation.

After including Christian Science with several systems of thought which had been investigated by a friend who had written a book, the writer made the following statement: "But he did not stop; he followed where the light led, and discovered a truth beyond all these half-truths."

It is upon the Bible and especially upon the words and works of Christ Jesus that the Christian religion known as Christian Science is based. Mary Baker Eddy has written on page 126 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures": "I have found nothing in ancient or in modern systems on which to found my own, except the teachings and demonstrations of our great Master and the lives of prophets and apostles. The Bible has been my only authority."

Jesus said: "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." This truth which the Master taught and practiced is what Christian Science teaches today, and there is no "half-truth" in this teaching. It is the truth about God and His perfect creation, man, and the relationship which always has existed and always will exist between them.

On the basis of this teaching, Christian Scientists throughout the world are obeying the command of Jesus to heal the sick. Through this teaching sinners are being redeemed, and lives which seemed hopelessly barren of any good are being transformed as this truth dawns upon the thought of those who seek it. The Christ, Truth, is present here and now; it is whole and complete. To receive Truth into our hearts and in our daily living is not a difficult thing to do. We have only to be receptive to it and practice it. Jesus said: "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light."
