It is with a deep sense of gratitude and humility that I offer this testimony. For over thirty-five years Christian Science has been my only physician. It has been my comfort in sorrow and has given me a sense of confidence and security when I have had to meet financial problems.
The first thing that interested me in the study of Christian Science was Mrs. Eddy's use of the word "Principle" as a synonym for God. The understanding of God as ever-present, infinite Principle has healed me of fear and removed all doubt as to the source of supply.
At one time I suffered prostration from heat, and was unconscious for some time. For several years after this I lived in fear and dread of hot weather, and suffered from severe headaches. On hot days I would often sit or lie for hours with an ice bag on the back of my head. From the time of my first reading of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy I never experienced another headache, and I was completely healed of the fear of hot weather.
More recently, following an attack of influenza, I suffered from arthritis, which caused me great pain and inconvenience. After this had gone on for three weeks, the suggestion came to me that I must get away from the cold and damp weather to a warmer climate. That night I read Mrs. Eddy's statement in Science and Health (p. 473), "The God-principle is omnipresent and omnipotent," and I declared, "I can prove the presence and power of God, here and now." I held to the truth of that statement and within less than a week I found myself going upstairs and down, taking long walks, and engaging in activities that before had seemed impossible.
Christian Science has increased my powers of physical endurance; it has healed me of many of the destructive beliefs which mortal mind would attach to years. I have witnessed in my family the healing of inflammatory rheumatism, chronic bronchitis, ptomaine poisoning, deafness, the drink habit, and many other discordant conditions.
I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, for class instruction, and for the privilege of taking an active part in the work of Christian Science. But above all I am grateful for the understanding of God as our loving Father-Mother, from whom we can never be separated, and for the peace that this understanding has given me.—(Mrs.) Clara Hilton, Chicago, Illinois.
