At the request of the Treasury Department of the United States of America, the attention of individual members of The Mother Church and individual members of its branch churches and societies is called to the opportunity of every man, woman, and child in the United States to participate in assisting to finance the national defense program of the United States government. Secretary of the Treasury Morgenthau estimates that one third of the money needed for national defense should be raised by the government by the sale of its bonds.

In order to make it possible for every citizen to share in this program, three new series of bonds have been offered for sale since May 1, 1941. These bonds are known as Series E, F, and G. Series E is similar to the well-known Baby Bond and is designed for investors of small incomes, while Series F and G are available to associations, partnerships, trustees, and corporations for the annual investment of large amounts. The Secretary of the Treasury says that the regular purchase of these securities, especially Series E, will contribute needed cash for defense, will tend to stabilize living expenses by easing the demand on industry, provide a future income for the worker when economic readjustments are made after this emergency is met, and finally strengthen national morale through the discipline of sacrificing present luxuries for future necessities. The plan is designed not so much to raise a large sum of money in a short time, but rather to foster habits of thrift among the people of the United States.

War Savings Stamps in various denominations are also available for purchase, accumulation, and conversion into these bonds. The bonds and the stamps may be presented to the government at any time for redemption by the purchasers.

While The Mother Church and its branch churches and societies do not, as organizations, engage in financial programs such as this, still we believe that the individual members of The Mother Church and the members of its branches will give full support to this undertaking of our government.

Correspondence

Correspondents with The Christian Science Board of Directors and with the Clerk and Treasurer of The Mother Church, and with heads of departments of The Mother Church Offices, are requested always to place their addresses on their letters and to write their signatures plainly. Women are requested to use the title "Miss" or "Mrs.," as the fact may be. Care on the part of correspondents in these respects will facilitate the sending of replies by the departments addressed.
