I should like to share an experience which proved to me...
I should like to share an experience which proved to me the ever-presence of God as taught in Christian Science. We read in Isaiah, "I am the Lord, and there is none else."
One day, after completing some committee work at a branch church, I was taking some Christian Science literature to a distribution box. The car which I was driving, and of which I was the only occupant, was struck by a delivery truck. Instantly I thought of God and was conscious of an all-pervading sense of peace and gratitude. The car overturned, and because of its position I was lifted out by the driver of the truck, but I was unharmed and undisturbed. A crowd gathered and the remark was made that a miracle had happened, but Christian Scientists know that what seemed to be a miracle was the evidence of the ever-presence of good.
The crowd was solicitous, and I sensed that it might not be easy to break away from it. Some men righted the car, and as they did so I took from it the bundle of literature. A copy of The Christian Science Journal fell to the ground, and as I picked it up a young woman stepped close and said quietly, "Now we know why you are so beautifully protected." She then invited me to her home, which was near by. As I started to go with her, a man advised me what to do in regard to the car. These two met my human need at that time. After I had attended to the necessary telephoning this young woman said, "You are so calm;" and I answered, "Because it never really happened."
The beautiful words in I Kings 19:11, 12 are especially precious when I think of this experience. They had been included in one of the previous Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly. Later, upon reaching home, I realized that a burn on my hand and also a slight cold had entirely disappeared during this experience.
We had placed our insurance with an advertiser in The Christian Science Monitor, and the car, which had been considerably damaged, was put in splendid condition. The company with which the truck driver was insured acknowledged the claim and paid for the complete repairing of the car.
We read in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 306), "Undisturbed amid the jarring testimony of the material senses, Science, still enthroned, is unfolding to mortals the immutable, harmonious, divine Principle,—is unfolding Life and the universe, ever present and eternal." I am grateful that Christian Science prevents inharmonious conditions as well as heals them.
I am grateful for those who have stood stanchly for God in the past and for those who are standing today, and for Christ Jesus and Mrs. Eddy, who demonstrated and explained to us the way of salvation from mortal discords to the truth of harmonious being. I am grateful for class instruction from a loving, consecrated teacher of Christian Science, and for the practitioner who first explained to me something of Truth.
