I am very grateful for Christian Science
I am very grateful for Christian Science. From childhood I was always sick and never knew what it was not to take medicine. As I grew older, a nervous complaint developed, and I was compelled to remain home from high school one semester on account of poor health. A few years after I completed school, the nervousness developed into a despondent melancholy condition, and life did not seem worth living. I knew doctors could not cure me, and thought nothing could help me. My mother heard of Christian Science and persuaded me to try it.
It was such a comfort to find out that God is Love, and that all space is filled with divine Love. When I read, on page 57 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy: "Happiness is spiritual, born of Truth and Love. It is unselfish; there-fore it cannot exist alone, but requires all mankind to share it," I pondered these statements for some time. Then I read on farther, but these statements kept ringing in my thought, and I turned back and reread them. I began to glimpse true happiness. My healing was very slow, but it gave me much time for study and purification of thought.
About six years ago I awoke early one morning and felt that I was passing on. My husband called for help in Christian Science, and I immediately began to get a sense of Life, and all that day the thought, "God is Life," was with me.
Another healing occurred three years ago. I fell on a slippery sidewalk and struck my leg, between the knee and ankle, on the wooden sill of the doorway of our garage. The pain was so severe that I had great difficulty in entering my home. This occurred about four o'clock on a Saturday afternoon. Error began to say, "You will not be able to go to Sunday school in the morning, and it is late to get an assistant." I answered with Mrs. Eddy's statement (ibid., p. 385), "Whatever it is your duty to do, you can do without harm to yourself." I lay down and read a section from the Lesson Sermon in the Christian Science Quarterly. The subject was, "Are Sin, Disease, and Death Real?" The references in that section were devoted to the unreality of accidents. I pondered every statement carefully, and gradually the pain lessened and then ceased. When I retired that night I continued to hold to the above statement from page 385.
I went to Sunday school the next morning and performed my duties as superintendent of the Sunday school without any difficulty whatever. The leg was sore when touched and was black and blue for almost three weeks, but there was no pain or difficulty in walking.
For membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church and for the opportunity of serving in the latter, also for class instruction, I am very grateful. After many years of study in Christian Science I have been led to a life of happiness and joy.
