I thank God for the wonderful healing of our eldest daughter through Christian Science.

In April, 1936, the child became ill with scarlet fever. Since I was not yet interested in Christian Science, we consulted a doctor. He ordered that she be taken to the hospital at once, because there was a younger child at home. During the first three weeks in the hospital the child had measles also. I was not allowed to see her for the next two weeks, but was told that she was getting along well. However, I was allowed to look at her through a crack in the door. I was shocked, for her little head was completely bandaged. The nurse said that she also had a serious inflammation of the middle ear. I then asked to see my child and speak to her, and was permitted to do so.

She recognized me, but she did not answer any of my questions. I went home much troubled. The next morning my husband was asked to go to the hospital immediately, for our daughter had had an attack. He came home, and told me gently that the child appeared to be dying, and that the doctors and nurses had no hope for her.

My father, who is a Christian Scientist, had often helped me during the child's sickness, and I knew that I could turn solely to God and Christian Science. I calmly went with my husband to the hospital and asked for our daughter. The doctors said, "Such a sick child one brings to the hospital, but does not take away." But I persisted, saying that I would take my child home under any circumstance, even if she was unconscious. My husband then had to sign a release absolving the doctors from all responsibility. We went home in a private automobile, with good courage and trust in God. My father immediately summoned a Christian Science practitioner to come to us. Until her arrival our child was unconscious.

Then something occurred which I shall never forget in my whole life. The child opened her eyes, kissed the practitioner's hand, and fell into a deep and calm sleep. The next morning she woke up as fresh as if nothing had occurred, and said to me, "Thank God, mama, that I am home with you again." She asked for something to eat, and on the third day was able to get up. Two days later she was completely healed. Now she is a strong girl, who loves Sunday school.
