Seasickness, like all other ills which mortals seem heir to,...

Seasickness, like all other ills which mortals seem heir to, can be healed by Christian Science. To this fact I should like to testify.

With two other civilians, I was invited to be a guest on board an aircraft carrier for a three-day cruise off the coast of California and Mexico during fleet battle practice. It was such an unusual opportunity that I immediately accepted.

The night before we were to sail, one of the other guests called at my home as we were finishing our dinner. He remarked that it was a very windy night and that a rough trip was imminent. Thereafter I was unable to eat my dessert. I became seasick, and retired as soon as possible. I spent as miserable a night on land as I had ever spent on the ocean. Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 86), "Mortal mind sees what it believes as certainly as it believes what it sees." There is no question but that this statement is true. I saw and experienced exactly what I believed.

I had frequently sailed to Catalina Island on a private schooner, but seldom without being seasick. This fact presented itself to me many times that night, and in the morning I was convinced that I could not make the trip. My wife urged me to call a practitioner. I did. As I drove to Long Beach with one of the guests, who was a Christian Scientist, we talked about the truth. I was seasick until I entered the Admiral's barge at the dock, but then I was healed, and thereafter had dominion over my fear of the sea. The trip was rough. The ship's papers reported "high winds and heavy seas." The first morning out I overheard an officer say he had spent a miserable night because of the rough sea. But I had enjoyed a restful night.

During those three days I went from bow to stern, from engine room to bridge, never skipped a meal, an event, or a motion picture showing, and praised God for my freedom. I have been on the sea many times since, and I have never again been seasick.

Christian Science has been our only physician for over twenty years. Members of my family have been healed through Christian Science of pneumonia, influenza, hemorrhoids, broken leg, varicose veins, autointoxication of the bowels, eczema, and other ailments. Naturally, I am very grateful to Mrs. Eddy for her revelation of Christian Science and for the founding of the Christian Science movement.

Membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church and class instruction are forward steps which I might have taken sooner had not a spurious argument deceived me. But I am grateful that they have been taken, and I have benefited thereby. I am deeply grateful for all the activities of Christian Science.

I should like to verify my husband's testimony and to express my gratitude for Christian Science.

I should like to speak especially of my experience in relying on Christian Science in a serious testing time, when I was struck by an automobile and, according to witnesses, hurled twenty feet along the concrete street. The thought came to me clearly and instantly, "God is ever present." I clung to this truth while I was driven home by a friend. A practitioner and my husband were called. I felt very drowsy, but was impelled to walk the floor declaring the ever-presence of God. When my husband arrived, we talked about the power of God; and we were so grateful to Mrs. Eddy for giving Christian Science to the world, for through her teaching we were enabled to realize and utilize the fact that God is "a very present help in trouble."

Then the pain in my head abated, and I felt free to lie down and rest. It was a few days before I could walk with ease, and a few weeks before the evidences of the accident had disappeared. But it was apparent to me and to those in our home that healing had taken place within an hour after the accident. At no time did we have any resentment toward the driver of the car. We realized that evil, or error, is impersonal and nothing but a false claim.

Some time later a medical student told me that I had undoubtedly sustained a concussion, and that I had been wonderfully protected in not succumbing to the urge to sleep immediately after the experience.

Christian Science, with its theology that heals, has been my only physician since birth, and has been of inestimable value in the rearing of our children. I am grateful for the Sunday school, for all the activities of the Christian Science movement, and for those who serve the Cause.
