Before taking up the study of Christian Science, I was...

Before taking up the study of Christian Science, I was not satisfied with my concept of the Supreme Being, and had become very doubtful as to whether God really existed. After reading Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, and Studying her definition of God (p. 587), I began to realize that God is omnipotent, and that I had found a religion which I could understand and accetp.

For many years Christian Science has brought me much comfort and many healings, and I have never known it to fail, when it has been faithfully applied.

A broken vertebra in the lower spine, the result of an injury at childbirth, was wonderfully healed. After much suffering and severe pain from this condition, I consulted a doctor, who told me that the bone would have to be removed. I was unwilling to undergo an operation, and declined medical aid. Shortly after this I took up the study of Christian Science, and I knew that I could overcome this difficulty through the understanding that man is spiritual, not material. The healing seemed slow, but suddenly one day I realized that, although the pain at times was very severe, I must not, in belief, make a reality of the condition. Complete healing came with the realization that God is perfect, and that man, as His idea, or reflection, is perfect. Man was seen as perfect and intact, neither in nor of matter. I held to the thought of man's God-given dominion, and claimed that dominion as a divine right. All pain disappeared, and I was healed.

Among the many demonstrations experienced in our home, I witnessed the beautiful healing of a member family, who was suffering from a poisoned toe. The foot had become badly swollen and discolored, and presented an angry appearance. The dear one affected was advanced in years. We turned to Christian Science, which tells us (Science and Health, p. 224), "Man in Science is neither young nor old;" also to the Bible citation, "One day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day." Fear was cast out of thought, and implicit faith in God's healing power substituted. Our work was to know that God governs all; and that, however terrifying the material appearances might be, mortal mind or error has no power, for error is but a false belief, the result of our ignorance of the nature of God. Within a short time the healing was complete.

By understanding that man forever in the presence of God, and is continually guided and sheltered by divine Mind, my family and I were beautifully protected at times when it was necessary to drive through a terrific thunderstrom, a blinding blizzard, and a severe fog.

We have had many proofs of the efficacy of Christian Science, evidenced in the healing of colds, of a dislocated ankle, of resentment, fear, and in the beautiful my son through college and into the business world.

I am very grateful for the Christian Science periodicals, and their messages of spiritual helpfulness, and I especially appreciate The Christian Science Monitor, a newspaper which gives all the worth-while news without the horrors of the day. I am grateful for membership in the Mother Church and in a branch church, for class instruction, and for the privilege of teaching in the Sunday school and serving in other capacities of church work.

I thank God, Christ Jesus, and Mary Baker Eddy, the revelator of Truth in this age.—(Mrs.) HETTIE F. BERLINER, Ridgewood, New Jersey.
