Scientific Practice

Based upon the Scriptural teaching, Christian Science reveals God as the one all-knowing Mind. In Genesis we read, "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." Can anything present itself in God's good universe which He has not designed, and which He does not know? Since God is conscious only of good, that which is not harmonious, pure, and true is not of Him or His creation, but is false belief. This false belief Christian Science destroys through the understanding of Mind's allness and evil's nothingness.

Our revered Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 207): "There is but one primal cause. Therefore there can be no effect from any other cause, and there can be no reality in aught which does not proceed from this great and only cause." This only cause, God, is good, just, merciful, and absolutely true. His idea, man, reflects Him in purity and intelligence. Can evil, disease, accident, and misfortune be a part of divine reality? We read in the Scriptures, "Thou [God] art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity."

The world is suggesting to our thought continually, through radio, newspaper, and other channels, that certain circumstances are fortunate, some ventures unlucky, and that life itself is uncertain; but God alone controls man and the universe, and His government is eternally harmonious, constant, unchanging. God's man is not subject to chance, change, or luck, and God does not divide His control with some other power, for no other real power exists. God is the Father-Mother of man, and His creation continually reflects Him, and is forever at one with Him.
