That Christian Science has helped me in every circumstance...
That Christian Science has helped me in every circumstance when rightly applied, there is no doubt. It has cast out excessive fear and replaced it with confidence and trust; it has healed me of chronic ill-health to such an extent that when I have met people who have not seen me for some years they have spoken of how well I look, in contrast to my appearance when last they saw me; it has overcome in one night pain which had seemed severe for some months; it has given me a basis upon which to build up a business; and it has changed my entire outlook.
In 1936 I experienced an almost instantaneous healing, which occurred just after Christmas Day. It was the third day I had been in bed. I was unable to read, eat, or sleep, and seemed to be getting very weak; in fact, the condition appeared critical. That morning my brother telephoned to a Christian Science practitioner, who commenced working for me at once, and immediately there was some improvement. The practitioner came to see me that afternoon and we had a talk, during which he reminded me that there is no evil mind, because God, good, is the only Mind.
When the practitioner had left me I felt hungry, and began eating food which I had not been previously able to eat, and within half an hour I got up, dressed, and went downstairs to the other members of the family. The next morning, which was Sunday, I went to the church service as usual.
I was very grateful for this healing, but what was of most value to me was the increased spiritual understanding that resulted. For quite a long time I had been feeling unhappy about a certain branch church, and a practitioner pointed out to me that my own concept must be improved. Upon analyzing the condition, with the definition of "Church" for my guidance, as given on page 583 of Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, I admitted that the church in question was active, and that it was fulfilling the terms of that definition in quite a large degree. I saw, therefore, that the thoughts I had been entertaining were false, and that I did not have to believe them. This conviction has stayed, and has since been of considerable benefit to me.
Amongst other healings I have experienced solely through the application of Christian Science are included the overcoming of periodic headaches, and a healing in three days of what I suppose would be called shingles.
I should like to give thanks that I was able to attend the Christian Science Sunday School for some years; and I am most grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church; and also for class instruction.
