Christian Science has completely revolutionized my life....

Christian Science has completely revolutionized my life. Seeking pleasure, glory, and honor in matter always left me with a keen sense of dissatisfaction and disappointment. Mrs. Eddy elucidates this point in Science and Health (p. 66), "Spiritual development germinates not from seed sown in the soil of material hopes, but when these decay, Love propagates anew the higher joys of Spirit, which have no taint of earth."

The time came when my little daughters asked me about God—who and what He is. I had seen Christian Science heal a friend and had also heard of the good it was doing. The desire to give the children the truth prompted me to enroll them in a Christian Science Sunday School, and this desire was the seed that grew to bless me too. We were the only ones among our relatives interested in Christian Science, and though we were laughed at, we kept on with our study. A world of beauty and goodness was unfolding to our view. The tenacious habit of smoking loosened its grasp on me, and social drinking became repulsive. The desire to do and be good revealed glimpses of true selfhood, ever pure, complete, and satisfied.

However, a testing time came when, through radical reliance on Him, I was forced to prove my dominion as a free and perfect child of God. The experience was difficult at the time, but great growth and activity resulted from the overcoming. God's promise, "I will overturn, overturn, overturn, it: . . . until he come whose right it is," was being demonstrated, and I am now experiencing, step by step, a greater sense of freedom of thought and action.

The habit of drinking seven or eight cups of coffee a day disappeared when I took active steps to join a branch church. My individuality is now unfolding in Love's sunshine, and I am learning that my reason for living is to express the nature of our Father-Mother God. Through leaning on divine Mind, Truth, I have been sustained, and my capacities have been enlarged. By using talent which had lain dormant, a field of activity has opened up, in which a profitable business is being conducted. I know that my real business is based on the Golden Rule, and consists in reflecting God. Every advancing step has met with seeming opposition, which has been turned into opportunity to prove the power of good over evil.

Step by step my eldest daughter is earning her way through college by applying Christian Science. When the time came for her to register for the freshman year, there was no money at hand for her tution. However, we knew that her desire for education was a right one, and we paid the registration fee. When the time came for the tuition to be paid, the money came through an unexpected channel. Several weeks later she was offered a position which is enabling her to put herself through college. The knowledge that God governs each of our steps has comforted and sustained us. We are very grateful for the Sunday school and for the consecrated work or the teachers. I am grateful for the Wednesday evening meetings so wisely provided by our Leader.

I am grateful to all those who, through the ages, have kept the fire of brotherly love kindled; to Christ Jesus, through whom it glowed with such radiance; and to our courageous Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, who through her example and writings has kindled it in each receptive heart.
