It was not until I had experienced much unhappiness...

It was not until I had experienced much unhappiness that I was ready to turn to Christian Science, although I knew of it when I was a small child, through a healing in our home.

I attended church for several months, refraining from buying the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, because my eyesight was so impaired that I had given up reading almost entirely. However, my desire to study finally prevailed, and words cannot describe the unfoldment that came to me in the months following. Almost immediately after I began reading, I laid aside my glasses, and have never needed them since.

We have had many wonderful healings in our home, some through our own understanding of Science and some with the help of practitioners. One day, as I started down the basement stairs, I tripped and fell. I struck my forehead on the concrete floor, and one shoulder and wrist were badly injured. I could not rise, and it was difficult for me to remain conscious. But as I was falling, I had declared, "God is All," and I continued to declare the truth. In a short time I was able to return upstairs, and go on with my work.

When my husband had studied Christian Science for two or three months, his hand and arm became infected. One evening he returned home in great fear, for blood poisoning had set in, and had reached the shoulder. I, too, was very fearful when I saw the condition. But after telephoning to a practitioner for treatment, he commenced reading from Science and Health, and I turned my thought completely to God, declaring, "God is Life." Fifteen minutes later we could see that the swelling was disappearing from my husband's hand. We did not look at it again until the following day, when the hand and arm began to drain. This continued for three or four weeks, when the healing was complete.

For these and many other healings, I am truly grateful. My gratitude for and appreciation of the great love and courage manifested by our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy, in giving her revelation of this Science to the world, and in establishing the Christian Science movement, grow more and more as I gain in understanding.

I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, for class instruction, and for the Association meetings each year. For the spiritual enlightenment and unfoldment which have come, and continue to come to me, I am deeply grateful. It is my earnest desire and endeavor to put into practice the teachings of Christian Science at all times.—(Mrs.) Edith J. Nelson, Portland, Oregon.
