For some time I have felt I should like to express my sincere gratitude for all the blessings which Christian Science has brought to us, and for the helpful testimonies I have read in the periodicals during the past fourteen years.

My first healing was of rheumatism, which took place after all medical aid had failed to bring release. I was healed while I was for the first time reading and trying to understand the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.

I was visiting a friend at the time, some distance from home. She was not interested in Christian Science, but we were discussing religion one day Christian Science was mentioned. She said she had a copy of Science and Health in her bookcase and lent it to me. I was curious to know what the phrase "with Key to the Scriptures" meant, for I was very much dissatisfied with the orthodox church, and I had often been unhappy when thinking of all the suffering and sadness in the world, and had wondered why these things should be.

Previous to that time I did not know that Christian Science healed, nor did I remember ever having heard of Mrs. Eddy or of her textbook. I had lived very much in an environment of medical thought, for my husband and my father-in-law, who lived in the same town, were both physicians. I must have been reaching out for the truth, for after borrowing the textbook, I read it at every opportunity, and before returning it I took a note of the address of the Christian Science Reading Room where it had been purchased. Feeling that this book contained the truth I had been needing for so long, I went to the Reading Room and procured a copy, at the same time having a talk with the librarian, who lovingly explained much that I had not been able to understand.

I did not realize until some time afterwards that I had been completely healed while reading and studying the textbook. The pain and swelling disappeared. This healing was a wonderful revelation to me, and proved that besides being a beautiful religion Christian Science was a practical one. I am indeed grateful. Although I have had other healings since, including those of neuralgia, bronchitis, tonsillitis, colds, and so forth, some by the help of a practitioner, others by my own understanding and application of the truth, the first healing stands out as a proof to me that the reading of the textbook heals when it is done with an unprejudiced thought.

For a better understanding of the Bible through Mrs. Eddy's writings, and for her unselfed love in giving us the spiritual interpretation of it, I should like to express gratitude.

Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." I am so grateful to God for having guided me to Christian Science, and thankful that I was found ready to accept it.

I can now say I am grateful for the difficult times too, for I realize these testing times help us to grow and so gain a better understanding of God and man. Mrs. Eddy says on page 410 of Science and Health, "Every trail of our faith in God makes us stronger."

I am very grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, for the privilege of class instruction, and for the opportunity of teaching in the Sunday school. For every activity which our Leader has provided for us, and for all that Christian Science has done and is doing for us and for the whole world, I am deeply grateful.
