For healings and other benefits received through Christian Science...
For healings and other benefits received through Christian Science during the past thirty years, I am extremely grateful, and it is my desire to express daily my appreciation of the knowledge I have obtained of God's power to heal and save mankind.
For sixteen years I suffered from an intestinal trouble which, according to medical science, was incurable. During all this time I was afflicted with constipation, stomach and liver trouble, and, at frequent intervals, severe headaches of several days' duration.
Throughout this experience I was a slave to doctors' prescriptions and medicine. I feel sure that the physicians attending me were sincere in their endeavors to heal me, although their diagnoses and treatments were not always the same. However, they were unanimous in predicting that I would never be well again, because in my case medicine was ineffective and an operation was out of the question. It seemed to me a desperate situation. I was ready to try anything that offered relief; so when Christian Science was proposed to me, I was in a receptive mood.
I immediately consulted a Christian Science practitioner and began reading Science and Health and the Sentinel. In four days I was completely healed, and all ill effects fell away. I was not only healed of my physical disability, but hopefulness of the future returned, and my life took on a different aspect. For many years I had been an inveterate cigar smoker. However, when divine metaphysics was applied, this habit was promptly and permanently eradicated.
I am certainly grateful for Christian Science, not only because of my healing, but for its giving me an entirely different understanding of man's relationship to God. The study of Science and Health and other writings by our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, also opened the Bible to me and changed what seemed to me a conglomeration of meaningless phrases to a volume of health, happiness, and prosperity.
I am grateful for class instruction and for the privilege of being an active member of the Christian Science church organization, which is doing so much to uplift humanity morally, physically, and spiritually.
