It is with deep gratitude that I recount my first healing...
It is with deep gratitude that I recount my first healing in Christian Science.
After a week's treatment by a Christian Science practitioner, I was healed of a condition which a physician had said would require a surgical operation. I was ten years old at the time, and during these ten years my life had been despaired of many times. A year before my healing in Christian Science, I had been operated upon for a similar ailment. Fearing another operation, my mother followed the recommendation of a friend and called a Christian Science practitioner for help. Through the healing was complete in a week, it was a week accompanied by doubts and fears on the part of members of my family, with the exception of my mother. She took me to the practitioner without even opening the bottle of tonic the doctor had sent to build me up for the operation which he expected would take place. She held unwaveringly to the truths the practitioner told her, though she had never heard of Christian Science before, and though the physical condition seemed, at first, to grow worse.
After the healing, we realized that I had also been healed during this week of the necessity of wearing exceptionally strong glasses. The optometrist had said they would often have to be changed for stronger ones, and that I should become blind, while still very young. I have never needed glasses since. At the same time a sever ear trouble which had occurred at regular intervals disappeared. Since that first experience with Christian Science I have expressed my true heritage of health.
I attended the Christian Science Sunday School and later became a member of The Mother Church, and I rejoice in the opportunities of service as a member of a branch church.
My two children were born with help in Christian Science, and these harmonious experiences were distinct contradictions of man-made laws. My children attend the Sunday school, and, through the truths taught them there, have been protected and healed.
In our family we have witnessed an instantaneous healing of severely burned eyes. This healing occurred when a fearful member of the family suddenly turned away from material remedies. A dislocated arm was instantaneously healed, when help was given by a Christian Science practitioner, though X rays showed that, according to medical belief, a plaster cast was necessary. Grief has been healed quickly and permanently.
My gratitude can know no bounds for my having found Christian Science; for Mrs. Eddy's selfless love which gave mankind God's great gift; for the many activities of The Mother Church; for the loving help always given by Christian Science practitioners; and for the great privilege of service to our fellow men which Christian Science affords us.— (Mrs.) Wimmer Bonner Gracier, San Mateo, California.
I am happy to corroborate my daughter's testimony and am sincerely grateful for the healing of the many false beliefs that held her in bondage. During the week that we first turned to God, through Christian Science treatments, we received a glimpse of the omnipotence of God and learned that Mind is the only Physician and medicine.
Although I had not asked for help for myself during the time the practitioner was treating my daughter, by being obedient to her request, earnestly endeavoring to do my part and reading Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I was completely healed of severe chronic neuralgia, from which I had suffered for several years.
I longed for a better understanding of how this healing work was done, and as I studied and learned more about this wonderful truth I gradually rose above many of the material social pleasures, and also realized I was reflecting more patience and love, and more harmony was being expressed in the home.
Numerous healings have been experienced during the past twenty-five years. Financial problems have been overcome; grief at the passing of a dear one was healed during a two weeks' visit at the Christian Science Benevolent Association Sanatorium on the Pacific Coast.
I am most grateful for membership in The Mother Church and the opportunity to be of service in a branch church. I am grateful for class instruction; for The Christian Science Monitor and the other periodicals; and for the many other activities which our dear Leader, Mrs. Eddy, has established for the continuous growth of Christian Science throughout the world.
(Mrs.) Gertrude Bonner, San Mateo, California.
