"Thank You, God"

[Written Especially for Children]

When Eunice was a baby, the very first words she learned to say were, "God is Love." So, later, when error would tempt her, she always declared, "God is Love." That was her way of giving herself a Christian Science treatment.

After the little girl understood words and their meaning better, she always added to her prayer, "Thank You, God."

What a happy day it was for Eunice when she began to attend the Christian Science Sunday School, where she learned more about God and His perfect creation! When she had to do more difficult things at home or at school, she remembered what she had been taught in Sunday school, and also at home by her mother. And she put into practice what she understood of Christian Science and proved its healing power.

Of course, Eunice remembered always to say, "Thank You, God." But not until she was sure she herself had faithfully done her part. Whenever she said, "Thank You, God," that meant that her work was finished. And then she knew God would show her the right answer.

There came a time when Eunice was having difficulty in learning the multiplication table. One evening she spent a long time alone in her room before going to bed. When mother went into the room later to turn off the light, she found a note on the dressing table. And this is what the little girl had written: "Dear God, please help me with my multiplication table. Thank You, God."

Now mother recognized that her little daughter was doing her own work about this. So she said nothing.

One day shortly after this, the little lass came home from school, her face beaming as she handed her mother a school paper with a splendid mark for work in multiplication.

On page 3 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, we read: "Who would stand before a blackboard, and pray the principle of mathematics to solve the problem? The rule is already established, and it is our task to work out the solution. Shall we ask the divine Principle of all goodness to do His own work? His work is done, and we have only to avail ourselves of God's rule in order to receive His blessing, which enables us to work out our own salvation."

Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, knew God's rule perfectly. So he could teach and prove by example that God is a loving Father, who always answers righteous prayer.

In the eleventh chapter of John's Gospel we find a wonderful story which tells us how Jesus raised to life his friend Lazarus. Jesus thanked God before the demonstration was made. He said: "Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always."

Then he called, "Lazarus, come forth." And Lazarus came forth.

God's perfect rule is already established for us, and we can begin to practice and prove this rule in our daily lives.

How grateful we should be, too, that we do not have to plead with God to make us good, or wise, or healthy! These gifts are already ours by reflection. But we must recognize our divine blessings and gratefully acknowledge them.

God's rule for demonstrating good is always present, and the Bible and our textbook teach us how to use this rule.
