I am grateful to God for Christian Science, and for all the healings that have come to me through this wonderful truth.

For a long time it has been my wish to give thanks to God for my first healing; for when Christian Science found me I was unhappy, discontented, without a God, without a church, and discouraged, due to a constant pain in my back, which dated from my childhood days. I had never known a day without that pain. I tried many kinds of treatment, from private doctors and hospital clinics in a large city, also had treatments by chiropractors, but all to no avail.

Then a professor, who diagnosed my case, decided that an operation on my spine was imperative. According to X rays, a vertebra was broken and had been so for more than twenty years and must be set together. I was willing to do anything and began to make preparations for the operation, but because of lack of funds, postponement had to be made.

At this time, a very good friend, who sensed my need, gave me a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. This friend said, "Read in this book and you will find help." I promised to read it, but said, "How can this book help me, when I have tried so many things and nothing has helped?" That evening I opened the book and looked the chapters over. The one entitled "Footsteps of Truth" looked so good to me that I began to read, and I loved it. I do not remember how much I read, but I know I could not understand much that I was reading. On the morning following I felt as though I had been newborn; there was no pain, but I was afraid to speak of it for fear that it might return. It is now more than seven years since this beautiful healing took place, and there has been no return of the trouble.

Prior to this wonderful healing, I was addicted to the smoking habit. I distinctly remember that when I began to read Science and Health, the thought came to me, "Reading this book and smoking do not go together;" and I have not smoked since, nor have I had any desire to do so. I did not know, at the time, that I had been healed instantaneously, but today it is very clear to me, and I am deeply grateful.

I thank God for our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who through her devotion and love for all mankind has shown us how to follow our dear Master, Christ Jesus, through Christian Science.
