Because I have gained much from reading the testimonies,...

Because I have gained much from reading the testimonies, I wish to add my share. I enrolled in a Christian Science Sunday School at the age of six. Since then I have proved the truth of Christian Science many times.

Some time ago, my brother accidentally shot himself in the forehead. I heard the shot and the fall and at once declared "the scientific statement of being," as given on page 468 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. In a few minutes the boy regained consciousness and said, "I am all right." The wound was washed with clean water and Christian Science treatment was continued. Neighbors expressed alarm and predicted blood poisoning, but in three days the boy was able to go about his work and play. Today there is no scar.

At another time a car traveling at the rate of sixty miles an hour ran into the car I was driving. "Under divine Providence there can be no accidents, since there is no room for imperfection in perfection" (ibid., p. 424). This truth was declared while the oncoming car was approaching. No one was hurt. The only damage to the car was a slightly bent axle and a punctured tire.

I am grateful for the practical benefit of Christian Science in the schoolroom where I taught for a number of years. I remember one instance in particular. At the beginning of the term the children disliked school. That winter the weather was unusually severe. This also made the children discontented and restless. Soon I recognized my opportunity. Each morning upon awakening I declared the following verse from Psalms: "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." Then I persistently brought to mind the many things I had for which to be grateful. In a short time the children's attitude toward school changed; they became joyous. Severe weather conditions ceased to annoy them. At the end of the term many of them said they had enjoyed school. Even the parents remarked that the children no longer had to be urged to go to school. Thus I learned that the teacher's thought is reflected by the children. My problem was to govern my own thoughts.

Every day a song of gratitude goes up from my heart for Christian Science and for Mrs. Eddy, through whom this gift came to us.—(Mrs.) Jean C. Wagner, Hayden, Colorado.
