I wish to express my joy and gratitude for the understanding...
I wish to express my joy and gratitude for the understanding and good which I have received from the study of Christian Science.
I was led to this Science at a time when I needed help, for I was suffering from asthma. I had not been to my work for over two weeks. At this time I was asked if I should like to try Christian Science. Feeling the way I did that day, I said I would try it. So I went to see a practitioner, and I shall never forget the loving way in which I was greeted. I made the call in the afternoon around three o'clock, and I went to work that night and worked from six o'clock until three o'clock in the morning without having one spell of asthma, whereas, formerly, I would have two or three attacks throughout the night and would have to stop my work for five or ten minutes each time. I called on the practitioner, in all, five or six times, and started reading the Bible Lessons found in the Christian Science Quarterly; also, the Bible, and the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. This all occurred about six years ago, and my healing has been permanent.
Another healing for which I am very grateful is the overcoming of fear which I used to feel when giving a telephone operator the exchange and number I wanted. I would stutter them out and almost always had to repeat them. But now I have no trouble at all.
I am very thankful for the many blessings that I receive daily through the study of the Lesson-Sermons. I am grateful to be living so near to Boston that I can attend The Mother Church on Sunday evening and a branch church in the morning; and also for being able to serve on some of the committees of the branch church. I am grateful for all the Christian Science periodicals, our textbook, and our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy. I have spent many happy hours in our Reading Rooms, and I also enjoy the lectures by the members of the Board of Lectureship. "The scientific statement of being," as given on page 468 of our textbook, and the "Daily Prayer," as given in Article VIII, Section 4, of the Church Manual, have also been a great help to me. I am sincerely grateful for membership in The Mother Church, as well as in a branch church.—George Lexington Dolliver, West Somerville, Massachusetts.
