My gratitude for Christian Science can never be measured...
My gratitude for Christian Science can never be measured by words.
Twenty-five years ago a painful and serious throat infection caused me to ask for Christian Science treatment, after our baffled family physician had declared his inability to further treat the condition and recommended that a specialist be consulted. Fearing an operation, I decided to try Christian Science. Although I knew absolutely nothing of this religion, the condition yielded readily to treatment, and in about two weeks I was entirely relieved of pain, and the evidences of infection disappeared.
Then my husband and I began sincere and earnest study of Christian Science, for we were curious as well as grateful, and desired to know how the cure had been effected. Since then we have had many reasons for gratitude. Healings of carbuncles, colds, abscesses in the ear, and a difficulty which, although not medically diagnosed, was apparently like spinal meningitis, were overcome through the scientific denial of all phases of error, as taught by Mrs. Eddy. Some of these healings came through our own work, some through the aid of practitioners. All members of my immediate family have now embraced Christian Science.
Deep waters have been passed through during the years, and at times their noise and roar have well-nigh engulfed us, but the "still small voice" of Love, for which we have been taught to listen, always roused us to a realization of God's mighty power. Mrs. Eddy's reminder in Science and Health (p. 494) that "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need," has indeed lifted us to mountain heights of peace and hope.
The testing times have not ceased, and life as we humanly experience it is not always a bed of roses, but we now understand our birthright and how to accept the Comforter, realizing that God's everlasting arms are underneath, sustaining us always. Mrs. Eddy has given us this Comforter, Christian Science, the teachings of which, when unreservedly accepted, free us from every sorrow, lack, or suffering. The authorized literature and our Leader's writings are our daily bread, and when they are properly used and their blessed messages are sincerely held in thought, our uplifted consciousness responds to the ever-present power of God.
I am deeply grateful for the privilege of class instruction, and for the joy of serving in a branch church, also for membership in The Mother Church. I am but one of the many grateful thousands to who life has become a joyous, eternal hope through the inspired teachings of our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy.—(Mrs.) Genevieve L. Markstein. New Orleans, Louisiana.
