Christian Science is the reinstatement of the Christianity...
Christian Science is the reinstatement of the Christianity lived, taught, and demonstrated by Christ Jesus. To all mankind, here and now, it offers a complete salvation.
Students of the Bible are quite familiar with the undeniable fact that Jesus performed many mighty works, among which were cases of healing diseases considered at that time, and today, serious maladies. He healed blindness, deafness, palsy, lameness, dropsy, leprosy, hemorrhage, and insanity; yet he never claimed that he, apart from God, did these glorious works. Our great Master always acknowledged God as the only power. He prayed, and taught others to pray, "Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever." Likewise, Christian Science declares God to be the only power, and it ascribes to Him the honor and glory for all good accomplished.
In Christian Science it is understood that there is but one God. This God is wholly good, and is the creator of all that exists; therefore the creation of God is like its infinite cause, wholly good. On page 587 of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, is found the definition of God. It is as follows: "God. The great I AM; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence." Jesus said (Luke 12:32), "Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom." God is "eternal," and it is indeed comforting to know that all that He has created is also eternal, perfect, indestructible.
Christian Science is bringing comfort and peace to a great many persons through its teaching and demonstration of the goodness of God. When one understands that God is not both good and evil, he can more completely trust and oeby the divine Mind, God. It is a sad mistake to believe that an infinitely just God, who is Love, would use evil as a means of expressing His power, or as a way by which to teach His children a lesson. Some individuals believe that earthquakes, floods, frosts, and drouth are sent by God to punish mankind, or to teach mankind to love and fear God. If God could or did bring to pass a disaster which caused untold suffering, sorrow, and loss to His children, would it not be exceedingly difficult, if not impossible, to love and trust such a God? Thanks to Christian Science, all may know the truth: that God is Love, entirely good, and in that good there is no evil to be vented upon man or the universe.
Mrs. Eddy was a true follower of Christ Jesus, she was noble, generous, loving, and compassionate.
About forty years ago my parents turned to Christian Science for the healing of my infant brother, whom three physicians had been unable to cure. This child was quickly and permanently healed in Christian Science, and is today a well man and an active member of the Christian Science church in the city where he resides. My first healing, which occurred shortly after the recovery of my brother, was the healing of typhoid fever and pneumonia. Those about me said that my case was hopeless. These neighbors and friends urged my parents to use material means, and abandon Christian Science, declaring that death was at hand. It was indeed a testing time, but the ever-present power of God was found adequate to meet the human need, and I was healed, quickly and completely, by Christian Science treatment alone.
