[Original testimony in German]
With profound gratitude and the desire to strengthen the...
With profound gratitude and the desire to strengthen the reader's faith I should like to testify to the following benefits which Christian Science has brought to me.
Above all, I am heartily grateful for the many happy hours I have spent in the Christian Science Reading Rooms, at the services, lectures, members' meetings, and among other dear Scientists. At one time I was quickly healed through Christian Science of a severe case of grippe. Later on, in the school for recruits, it strengthened me and gave me fresh courage daily. Through Christian Science I quickly found employment, in spite of unfavorable circumstances. Again, somewhat later, it helped me to overcome a severe experience. When I went abroad I was most beautifully led. I found work in a very short time and also a harmonious home and loving friends.
In Hamburg, in November, 1933, I had a remarkable healing. I injured myself, and the injury developed into a badly suppurating wound. Nevertheless, I refused to have a doctor called and did not apply any material remedies, not even when suddenly there were bad symptoms of blood poisoning; but I asked a practitioner for help. Within three days the symptoms had been entirely healed. I had spent the whole time in reading the textbook, Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, and her other works, and I can truly say that I was free from fear, for I had recognized fairly clearly that the condition was only a picture of mortal mind, an association of beliefs; that thought alone had to be corrected, and the sickness would disappear of its own accord.
After returning home again, through the help of Christian Science I obtained a splendid position in harmonious surroundings. My own experiences support me in saying that if one earnestly studies Christian Science, one will without any doubt find a place of employment, however unfavorable conditions may seem to be. And whoever is turning out just mediocre work in his special line, can with the help of Christian Science became a first-rate worker. It is also very reassuring in this connection to know that no problem confronting us is beyond our strength.
But greater than anything else are the peace and joy which Christian Science gives us as nothing else can, by showing us how we can destroy any sort of fear. Finally, I should like to express my gratitude especially for the great opportunity I had of attending the Christian Science Sunday School, wherein the seed of Truth and Love is sown in the hearts of the children, to develop sooner or later into full flower.—Hans Walter Haegi, Kemptthal, Switzerland.
