I have always felt that Christian Science was sent to me...
I have always felt that Christian Science was sent to me as a direct to prayer. I was away from home, alone in a strange city, practically without funds, and to mortal sense I was very ill. At that time I was a member of an orthodox church and I prayed for guidance. Though the way did not at that time seem very clear to me, I recovered enough in a few days to return to my home for a rest.
During my absence, my room was occupied by a lady who had come to the city for the purpose of having class instruction in Christian Science. When I returned, I found a copy of the Christian Science Sentinel which she had left in the room. I read word of it with much interest, though the testimonies of healing seemed too good to be true. Shortly after this, a neighbor invited me to attend a Wednesday evening testimony meeting in the local Christian Science church, and she also lent me a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I accepted this book and started to read it as one would read any other book, but before I had finished it I was healed of a condition for which I had taken material remedies for a long time. I the textbook, and by reading it was healed of headaches, indigestion, and attacks of tonsillitis.
In 1919 I was healed of a very of attack of influenza and through the help of a practitioner. At this time my husband was not at home, and without my permission my physician to see me. The physician stated that I would not live unless something were done for me from a medical point of view, but I knew that God was caring for me. I was healed in a very short time, and took up my household duties without going the predicated long period of convalescence.
My mother turned to Christian Science when she was not able to retain the medicine the physician gave her for heart trouble. She apparently was in a serious condition. Christian Science treatment was given, and in two weeks she was greatly improved. She to study the Lesson-Sermons from the Christian Science Quarterly, and in a few weeks took charge of her son's home and family of three small children.
Other healings in our family of five been of a severe nervous breakdown, burns, measles, and various discordant conditions. I am grateful not only for the physical healings, but for a more spiritual understanding of God and of man's relationship to Him. I am learning the wisdom of that guide for daily life given in Proverbs: "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths."
Words cannot express the gratitude I feel for the provisions Mrs. Eddy has made for us to help us alone our way from sense to I am grateful for the Christian Science lecturers with their words of and instruction; for the practitioners, who are ready day or night to take up work when our problems seem more than we can solve; for the new Publishing House, the literature, and all of the activities of The Mother I am grateful for the privilege of being a member of The Mother Church and also of a branch church. My desire is to be worthy of the name "Christian Scientist."
