I should like to express my gratitude through our periodicals...
I should like to express my gratitude through our periodicals for all that Christian Science has done for me.
Previous to 1920 I had suffered from infancy with anæmia and a weak throat, which finally developed into tubercular glands. After undergoing every known treatment for that disease, I found Christian Science when I was facing my seventh operation. I knew nothing about this Science until "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy was put into my hand with the request that I read it. I did so, and at the end of two weeks, although I had not finished the book, I suddenly found that I was healed of a very painful eruption on my limbs which I had had for two years continually, due to anæmia, and which the doctors had been unable to relieve. Indigestion, also, had vanished, and I ate everything set before me. I had forgotten to put on my glasses during these two weeks and I have never worn them since, although an oculist had told me five years previously that I should always have to wear them for close work; and the swelling in the neck was greatly reduced. All this seemed so wonderful to me that I decided to give up medical treatment and rely entirely on Christian Science. I went to a practitioner for help and in six weeks I was working, although I had been unable to work for more than a year. Eventually the throat condition was completely healed.
About a year later I was instantaneously healed of severe seasickness in midocean. I was traveling alone, so was forced to do my own mental work and was greatly encouraged at this healing, for it was so complete. Since then I have been healed of kidney trouble. This was a very slow healing, taking eight or nine years for its completion. Some years ago, while I was curling my hair, the electric tongs went into my left eye. Pain and fear were intense until a practitioner began to work for me, and in three absent treatments the eye was entirely healed.
Words utterly fail to express my gratitude for all these healings and for the faithful work of the practitioners. I have proved many times that God is the source of supply and I have been wonderfully sustained. I have had the great privilege of two weeks' stay at The Christian Science Benevolent Association Sanatorium at Boston. It is impossible to describe the love and peace which prevail there; one needs to experience them to appreciate them. In the words of one of our hymns, "The loveliness of Love is all around." I have been greatly uplifted in thought by the experience, and have a greater appreciation of all that our dear Leader has given us. I can express my gratitude only by living it, which I am earnestly trying to do. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church, also in a branch church.—(Miss) J. Constance Wallington, Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
I feel I should add my testimony to my sister's, for it was through seeing such a wonderful improvement in her condition by just reading a book that I bought a copy of Science and Health. I read it from cover to cover and it changed my whole outlook on life. Before I had finished the book I realized it was a direct answer to very earnest prayer. Having had much trouble and sickness some months before, I had sought for a cause for all the troubles, and finding none, had sought for God. Then I decided that there was no God. I was greatly distressed at having no God, and one day I prayed, If there is a God reveal Thyself to me; show me myself as Thou seest me and show me myself as I am. While reading Science and Health I saw God as infinite Mind, divine Love; I saw myself as He sees me—His spiritual reflection—and I saw myself as I had seemed to be, a mortal blaming Him for all misfortunes. I knew then that this was a direct answer to prayer and that I had found the truth; and I realized that I was healed of muscular rheumatism and valvular heart trouble for which prominent physicians had told me there was no cure. That was thirteen years ago.
Since then I have had many healings; severe grippe was healed in twenty-four hours. I surprised a dentist by experiencing almost painless dentistry, with no other help than the reading of the Christian Science textbook. I have had other healings with the loving help of a practitioner, for which I am very thankful. I am most grateful to Mrs. Eddy for her great gift to the world, for our periodicals, and for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church.
