In gratitude for the blessings which have come to me...

In gratitude for the blessings which have come to me through the study and application of Christian Science, I write this testimony.

I became interested in Christian Science when my wife proposed that we take our youngest child to the Sunday school. We attended our first service at the same time. The little one was allowed to bring home a copy of Science and Health. In reading this book I felt an indescribable joy and peace. I remarked that the statements must be true, but I wondered what it would say about smoking, for I had smoked incessantly for twenty-five years. One evening, as I was striving to understand the spiritual man, I laid down a pipe I had been smoking and forgot about it. I picked it up a little later and discovered it to be so distasteful to me as to be unbearable. This healing of the use of tobacco has been permanent.

In the fall of the same year it occurred to me that I had not been afflicted with hay fever all summer. It had left me and has never returned. I had suffered for twenty years with this belief. I am extremely grateful for these healings, and especially so to know that they cannot return, because "the former things are passed away." I am very thankful for the tender and loving help of a practitioner when a tooth caused me much pain. Other inharmonious conditions have been overcome, such as colds, backache, and a severe cut on the hand. The audible and forceful declaration of the truth of being is a great help in our home.

For a number of years my daily work had been inside, where I met very few new people, so when I had to go out as a salesman many erroneous arguments came to the surface. The thoughts which helped me were that we are really all of one Father-Mother, God, and that as I went in to see anyone it was not to get something, but to give. This experience brought me out of myself somewhat, and I am grateful for it.

The daily, systematic study of Christian Science and of the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly, and the revelation of the fact that our Father-Mother God cares for us all and lovingly provides for us, is a constant joy which is always new.

I am extremely grateful for the friend who first told us about Christian Science, also for the Wednesday evening testimony meetings. It is a great joy to serve in a branch church and to drop all personal problems when entering the church by working for the congregation as we are instructed in the Church Manual (Art. VIII, Sect. 5). By serving I have been able to see the difference between a human, personal love, which is possessive thing, and divine Love, a giving out of good regardless of personality. I hope I may be able to give out to others some of this truth. All the periodicals are a great help, especially the Monitor. I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church; for Christ Jesus, the Way-shower; for Mary Baker Eddy; and for all that this wonderful teaching is doing for humanity.
