Words are inadequate to express my gratitude for Christian Science
Words are inadequate to express my gratitude for Christian Science. When a small child I had sore eyes. The family physician did all he could to help me, but the only encouragement he could offer was that I should outgrow the condition. At school age it was discovered that my eyesight was defective, and my eyes were very offensive in appearance. After several years of agony, as the eyes kept getting worse and the suffering more intense, my mother took me to another city to consult a specialist. After a thorough examination the doctor announced that an immediate operation was necessary or I should be totally blind. The next day I had the operation, and after that I underwent several other painful ones which seemed necessary to correct what the physicians termed a complicated condition. From the time of the first operation for fully thirteen years I was under almost constant care of specialists.
The condition became such that I had to wear heavyfocus, specially ground glasses in order to see at all. Finally I was advised by the doctors that there was nothing more they could do for me; that they did not know what the trouble was, but that within a short time I should be blind. They further said that I might be helped if I wanted to undergo another series of operations, but that my physical condition did not warrant this. I was even advised to consult an osteopath.
Up to this time a small fortune had already been spent, and I was deeply in debt and discouraged. Here Christian Science found me; and in six weeks after turning to it for help I was able to go to work; I was in better health and had better eyesight than I had ever known before. My glasses were laid aside and my eyes were normal. This was over twenty years ago; and I am grateful to acknowledge that the power of God healed me, through the study and application of Christian Science. I am also grateful for protection. The allness of God has been demonstrated in our home over and over again during the last four years.
I was a salesman and early in 1930 I was called in off the road. I had no available financial resources whatever, and a note for a goodly sum was coming due at the bank. The bank renewed this note for ninety days. Three days before it came due again I did not even have the money to pay the interest, to say nothing of the principal. The day before this note came due I paid it in full, as just enough money to take care of the obligation came from an unexpected source. Only the outstretched arms of God, divine Principle, Love, could have made this possible. Also several times during this experience we did not know where the next meal was coming from, or how to meet our current obligations. But we did know that God's supply is infinite; that we could lack nothing. Needless to say we have always had enough and something over. It has also clearly been proved to me by actual experience that when we are faithful and obedient to God's call, His loving provision is better than any human hands could plan.
I am very thankful for every trial of my faith in God, and for every experience that makes us work more earnestly and demonstrate the Christ-spirit more faithfully; grateful for every activity of Christian Science, for class teaching, for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church; and for the opportunity of serving in a branch church. I am indeed grateful for Christian Science.

Gratefully I verify the testimony of my husband. Christian Science has met our every need. Instead of despondency there has been peace of mind; instead of uneasiness and fear there have been joy and happiness in cleansing our thinking; instead of sickness have come a greater sense of health and a more earnest turning to God first and steadfastly in time of need. Indeed Christian Science has proved to be the true way to solve our problems.—(Mrs.) Zilpha E. Mattern.
My brother's experience with his eyes was as he has stated it. I took up the study of Christian Science at the same time. I too had eye trouble and had worn glasses for sixteen years; an eye specialist had said I never should be able to do without them. But in less than four months after beginning this study I had an instantaneous healing while reading a Christian Science Sentinel; glasses were laid off and I have never needed them again.
For all the blessings I am receiving daily through the study of this Science, I am exceedingly grateful.
(Miss) Anna E. Mattern, Oak Park, Illinois.
