Christian Science, when rightly applied, will always meet...
Christian Science, when rightly applied, will always meet our needs. During the past twenty years this has been proved to me many times.
My first healing was eighteen years ago, when my hearing was restored to me. It was a joy which only those who have had a similar experience can understand. On another occasion, when living in North Dakota, I was taken seriously ill while my wife was away on a two weeks' trip. So far as I knew there was no practitioner or anyone interested in Christian Science nearer than seventy-two miles, so I called a doctor. He told me that I had to have an operation; and other doctors were consulted who told me the same. I was getting worse all the time and for three days I had no sleep. I was becoming delirious. Once more divine Love guided me and I called a practitioner by long-distance telephone. She took up the work at once and I was instantly healed while I was talking to her over the telephone.
At another time, while getting ready to put storm windows on our house, I fell and was badly hurt. But I knew that the real man never was hurt and went about my work, putting on twenty-one storm windows. While undressing for bed I found clear evidence that I had three broken ribs. Again my wife and I declared the truth. The next morning I went to the store as usual. One of the first sales I made was of a one-hundred-pound keg of nails. I carried it out of the basement and put it in the customer's automobile and went about my work. No one in the store ever knew that I had fallen.
Two years ago I burned one of my legs, and when I touched it with my hand a large piece of the skin came off. I at once declared the truth and the pain left immediately. In three days new skin was formed over the place. About the same time I was healed of eczema, which I had had for thirty years or more.
I am very grateful for the Christian Science periodicals, for class instruction, and for the practitioners who have always given me their loyal help when I have been in need.
Hermann C. Meese, Riverside, California.
I wish to corroborate my husband's testimony. Christian Science has been our only physician for nearly twenty years, and we can truthfully say with the Psalmist, "Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered." I too have had many healings through depending entirely on Christian Science. Some have been with practitioners' help, but most of them were through my own application of the truth as we are taught in Christian Science.
Every winter I had been subject to severe colds, and also had pneumonia several times, but I have been entirely healed of these difficulties. I have also had one painless childbirth, which was normal in every way, even though the doctor who attended me told my husband that I could not live and neither could the baby. Before this three doctors had said I could not become a mother. Christian Science is a great help in bringing up our two sons.
I am truly grateful for the years we lived in a small town where Christian Science was hardly known. For many years I was the only one interested, but finally a few others became interested. We opened our home for Sunday morning services, which we held for two years, following the Manual closely and missing only one Sunday. Often there would be quite a number of strangers to enjoy the service with us. The joy of having these visitors helped and strengthened us many times. Often it seemed lonesome and hard to be alone in the Field, but in turning to the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings we were always strengthened and our courage was renewed.
Our greatest desire is that we may be worthy of the name "Christian Scientists." I am grateful to all practitioners, for the literature, and for the privilege of being a Sunday school teacher, for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church, and for class instruction.
(Mrs.) Bertha E. Meese, Riverside, California.
