Christian Science came to me after other things had...

Christian Science came to me after other things had failed. Tired, sick, discouraged, and suffering from an internal injury, for which materia medica was giving me no relief, I felt there was nothing to live for and nothing to which I might turn. But we are told that "man's extremity is God's opportunity."

Although no longer believing in God, I finally cried out that if such a one existed He would show me the way out of the many inharmonies that seemed to engulf me. A few days later a loving friend told me of the beauties of Christian Science and gave me some literature, which led me to a Christian Science Reading Room. Here I found refuge from the storm. Picking up "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" I started to read. I shall never forget the unexplainable joy and peace that swept over me as I read the first few lines, for I knew I had found the truth for which I had been longing! I had discovered that not only does God exist but that He is a God of love and tenderness; a God who wipes away everything unlike good, and guides, guards, and governs.

From this time on my concepts of life began to change. Although I was not looking for physical healings, many of the inharmonious conditions disappeared. A chronic sore throat of several years' standing melted away; the internal injury, a large lump on the neck, and a growth on the face were healed. Fevers, colds, and a nervous breakdown have been overcome in about three days, while profanity and the desire for intoxicating liquors, tobacco, and other stimulants dropped away into nothingness. At one time my hand was drawn through the two rollers of a machine on which I was working. By the help of the Christian Scientists with whom I was living, the injured hand was healed in a few hours.
