In loving gratitude for what Christian Science has done...
In loving gratitude for what Christian Science has done for our son I wish to give this testimony. In 1929, when he was twenty years of age, he was in a car which collided with another automobile. Our son was violently thrown through the door into the air, landing with full force on an iron manhole. After a thorough examination at the hospital it was found that his neck was broken, and the case was pronounced hopeless. Later we were told that the fourth and fifth cervical vertebræ nerve centers were broken and the body paralyzed from the neck down.
The nurses were warned by the physicians not to move the boy the slightest bit, as it would mean instant death, for the bone was splintered and there was danger that the sharp broken points might pierce the spinal cord. The verdict was that he would pass on the second day, should he last even that long; and the specialists found it impossible to place him in the usual form of cast.
Christian Science work was taken up from the first, and the faithful practitioner steadfastly maintained that this demonstration could and would be made and the boy restored completely—not badly crippled as the doctors said would certainly be the case if he should recover.
The accident occurred on the night of July the fourth. The week before Christmas of that same year our son was working ten, twelve, and even fourteen hours a day, sorting mail during the Christmas rush at the post office. In a surprisingly short time he had regained his former quick, alert walk; he could run and swim long distances; and one evening I saw him standing on his head on the hard floor showing a younger brother how to balance himself.
Further proof of the endurance that Christian Science has brought to this elder son is shown in the business trip which he made alone to Philadelphia, driving his car through ten states. Today he manifests complete health, and is a living proof of what can be accomplished by earnest, loving, clear work in Christian Science. Words are inadequate to express our gratitude to God for this marvelous healing, and to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, for giving us a practical religion which reveals God's power to heal now, just as it did in the time of the great Master, regardless of material conditions.—(Mrs.) Inez E. Crysler, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
