Twenty years ago Christian Science was presented to me by a new-found friend. I had lost interest in an orthodox church of which I had been a lifelong member and was ready for the revealed truth and clear logic of what was to me a new religion. I began studying Science and Health and became a regular attendant at church services. I had not started with any thought of healing, but noticed as I progressed that minor ills quickly disappeared, and the habit of smoking literally fell away from me.

Then came a testing time, when our baby boy became ill. In the absence of his nurse, who was a Christian Scientist, a doctor was called. He did not name the trouble, but left prescriptions and directions. These were not used, as the nurse then returned, took charge of the baby, and he was healed that night.

Some discord developed in my business which I did not know how to handle in Science. It reached an acute stage, and I went down under a nervous attack that was intensified by constant fear of passing on. The healing was slow, accompanied by setbacks and discouragements, but the victory was won through the consecrated and effective work of a practitioner and my own persevering adherence to the truth. The time came when I could through my own understanding handle and overcome the diminishing return attacks. This long process meant purification of character through the correction of erroneous traits and habits, and the building up of a reliance on God that sustained me in later years.

As time passed I was healed of ptomaine poisoning, influenza, lumbago, and various other ailments. Our two boys, brought up in Science and now grown, quickly and successfully came out of many ailments, including scarlet fever, mumps, measles, infected hand, appendicitis, and results of accidents, with Christian Science help exclusively.

I feel that I owe my life and all that I am to the revelations and healing ministrations of Christian Science, and my gratitude is beyond power of words to express. I would not exchange it for any mode of life or teaching. The disciples clearly recognized the absolute truth enunciated by Christ Jesus when he asked them, as many of his followers were falling away, "Will ye also go away?" and Peter replied, "Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life."

I am deeply grateful for membership in The Mother Church and in a branch church, for class instruction, and for opportunities to be of service. My earnest prayer is that my life may worthily attest my gratitude.
