In October, 1901, Christian Science was presented to me...

In October, 1901, Christian Science was presented to me and was accepted for physical healing. I believed this to be my only need at that time; but I soon realized that my real need was to know God and the truth of being.

I had been through a very severe hospital experience and had lost the use of one part of my body. I was encased in a surgical appliance which I was supposed to wear for at least one year; and many other bodily ills were in evidence. I had no assurance of ever being able to walk normally again. I was indeed as one "having no hope, and without God in the world."

A neighbor who heard of my plight came to see me and told me of Christian Science. She brought one of Mrs. Eddy's writings and several pieces of literature and assured me that I could be healed and freed from the bondage which through ignorance of God had been imposed upon me. After several days' reading of this literature, I asked for treatment. This was promptly and lovingly given, and it enabled me to "arise, and walk" without pain, suffering, difficulty, or human aid. My joy knew no bounds; a new light and outlook came to me. I felt certain I had found the true religion of Christ Jesus.

From the time I was about seven years of age until I began the study of Christian Science I was subject to periodical attacks of so-called catarrhal malaria and a tendency to sore throat, abscesses, colds, and congestion. My deliverance from these ailments has been complete.

I am thankful for the many trials and opportunities that have impelled me to study and work more diligently for spiritual understanding. Each day I endeavor to be obedient to the admonition found in II Timothy, "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." I am grateful to God for Christ Jesus, the Way-shower; for Mary Baker Eddy, our beloved Leader; for the Christian Science organization; for church membership, and for the loving help of many kind friends.
