A recent issue contains a letter on the subject of Christian Science. The writer objects to Mrs. Eddy's definition of God as "infinite Principle," and thinks it means "something intangible," "evidently of a gaseous nature," a "mysterious exhalation." Infinite Principle means infinite cause, origin, or source, and is a correct definition of the creator of the spiritual universe and man. To a Christian Scientist there is nothing "mysterious" about God, Spirit.

It is evident that our critic has a personal concept of God, and conceives Him to be a magnified human being with five physical senses, knowing good and evil at the same time. To understand God in Christian Science, one must acknowledge Him as infinite, incorporeal Spirit, Life, Truth, Love, omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent, as the Scriptures declare. When God is understood as omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent good, it is evident that He can know only good.

Father-Mother is another term for God in Christian Science to which our critic objects. Christian Science finds its authority for the use of this term in Genesis, where it is declared, "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.... So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them." The motherhood as well as the fatherhood of God is brought out in these verses. Our critic must lay down his prejudice and false concepts about God before he can begin to understand Christian Science.

Christian Scientists are endeavoring to obey the injunctions of Christ Jesus to heal the sick and reform the sinner by his spiritual method, and they are proving his method to be more efficacious than any other they have ever tried. No one, professing to be a follower of our Master, should ignore the words of James: "The prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him."
