Christian Science teaches its followers that the kingdom of heaven, harmony, is possible of attainment today through spiritual understanding of the law of God. As spiritual understanding increases, the body naturally and necessarily responds to the changed thinking, the result being a cessation of diseased conditions and a more healthy body. This physical healing, which is the result of the study of Christian Science, is one detail of our religion that has attracted the attention of the older schools of treatment of disease, and has possibly priduced some misunderstanding and opposition. However, your invitation to me indicates a fine sense of brotherly love, which is appreciated.

Christian Scientists are not opposed to persons who employ other methods of treatment. Christian Science follows Christ Jesus as the Way-shower, and its adherents earnestly desire to live peaceably with all men.

The world is working and praying for peace, but it must be remembered that world peace will be attained only as peace comes to the consciousness of the individual. We have the opportunity of assisting in this world movement, and we can start today, this very moment, by being peaceable, loving, kind, and charitable toward our friend, our neighbor, and even our so-called enemy.

There is a story which shows how important it is for the individual to gain peace within himself if he would wish to find it in his neighbor. A newcomer to a town stopped a citizen and explained that he had just moved into the town and had been explained what kind of people he would find there. The citizen asked him, "What kind of people did you find in the town you came from?" He said, "They were about as mean as you could imagine. Almost impossible to get along with." "Then," said the citizen, "I am afraid you will find just the same class of people in this town!"

Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, wrote in "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany" (p. 4):"A genuine Christian Scientist loves Protestant and Catholic, D. D. and M. D., — loves all who love God, good; and he loves his enemies. It will be found that, instead of opposing, such an individual subserves the interests of both medical faculty and Christianity, and they thrive together, learning that Mind-power is good will towards men." Therefore unto this Scriptural admonition we may well give heed: "Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren."
